LTE doesn't use more data.

My data usage went through the roof when I had my Droid Bionic on LTE. Our IT guys at work double all data plans when someone turns in their 3G company phone for an LTE. Just my experiances. Tons of people on shared data plans complaining about it as well.

Data usage may increase due to faster response with LTE. Faster response means you can do more in less time. For example, color weather radar would take a while to load on my 3G and 4, but on the 5 with LTE it loads in a second. Then I can go surf or do something else instead of waiting for the data to download.

My wife had a 4 and recently decided to drop it after she took her otter box case of :( cracked glass. Upgraded hers to the 4s and se likes it better. Loves the talk to text and says it is a bit faster.

I am still up in the air

It is not possible for the phone to use more data simply because it is LTE. As it has been said people use more because the phone is blazingly fast. Data is data regardless of the connection speed.

Blazingly fast? Is blazingly a word? Lol. Not sure about it being that much faster either but that's just my opinion.

I'm also saying that I did, for a fact, go through way more data when my Bionic was in 4g. There's a reason that once the Bionic's went to ice cream sandwich you could no longer shut LTE off, so that you burned through more data and had to buy more gb of data from Verizon. On top of it, funny how someone had to find a way to make an app so that you could shut it off when Verizon didn't want you to so that people could put the app on their phones, shut LTE off and not have to upgrade their data plans.

LTE isn't fast you say? 3G isn't even a tenth of that speed. That was from earlier this week. And it really isn't something that can be argued- connection speed has nothing to do with data use- its the same as trying to claim one uses more data at home upgrading from DSL to fios or other similar high speed services. What likely happened is issues with programming on the phone causing it to be running crap in the background. Android being open source and able to be customized by manufacturers means they can screw it up and Motorola is/was notorious for being slow to update.

Man that is fast! The fastest I've had 4G around here was 11mbps.

Yeah it blew me away too. Verizon has some sort of office in Syracuse, I passed it driving around. Roof was bristling with antennas and microwave dishes. I'm guessing since they have a corporate presence in the city (building was huge) they turned the speeds up to 11.

Whatever dude, I agree to disagree, I don't gaf. Seriously. How many times do I have to put in print, that what I am posting is my opinion and own personal experiances? I owned the damn phone, saw it with my own two eyes yet you sit here and keep telling me that I didn't see it/it don't exsist, etc. Did you pay my bill? Jesus.

I now know why I don't come to this site anymore. Because they ask people to mod that love to argue just so they can hear themselves talk and are never wrong.

On OS X Daily, this is what they report about the 5s:

iPhone 5S Features?

Little is known about the next iPhone, but it’s likely the model will follow the same trajectory of the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S transition. Thus, a theoretical “iPhone 5S” would be likely to include significant internal component upgrades from the existing iPhone 5 model, including a faster processor with improved graphics handling, a better battery life, and a better camera offering sharper images at an increased megapixel size. The device is also likely to ship with iOS 7.

If these features are important, then you should wait for the next release of the iPhone. If not, you could get a 5 now, or wait until the 5s comes out and the 5 drops in price.

As for the LTE using more data, each person will have a different experience. I can only speak for iPhones and iOS. I have no experience with Android products so I cannot say what they do or don't do. Maybe they do use more data - IDK.

If I recalled correctly, my new 5 seemed to be using the battery and data a lot when I first got it, but after tweaking the brightness, and shutting down location services for most apps, battery life improved and data usage dropped. I get detailed billing from ATT, so I review my data usage every month. I'm trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on getting the hotspot functionality turned on.

You guys are arguing different things. It is true that data speed is a function of protocol and signal strength, but it's also true that a typical user will consume more data on higher speed networks. I remember using dial-up lines on text terminals... and now my kids are watching TV, but only because they "can".

I'm not sure that LTE in and of itself uses more data when equally compared to a equally set up/used 3G phone, but I was one of the many Verizon customers who's iphone 5 falsely reported massive amounts of data when connected to wifi and not even in use. My phone reported roughly 27gb of usage in a matter of 4 days. That was so much fun. I like the phone but I never had any such issues with android.

I would have to say, data usage can be caused by apps installed that suck the data fast. I don't see how having LTE or 3G matters. Up in Canada I got 4G with telus and now they got this LTE from rodgers, I just don't really see much difference between them. I am up for a new phone in May I will stick with android OS. Not to piss the iPhone lovers off, but iPhone is just junk you get jailed to apple and its stupid iTunes plus you can't change the battery and need to use their stupid special cord to charge. Minewhile I get to use the super common micro USB for charging and what not.

For all intents and purposes 4G and LTE are one in the same. LTE is just a type of 4G network so far as I know. As for Apple vs Android, we could debate that for pages and pages. I'm fine with iTunes as I pay for the music I own and it's not like their prices are out of line with anyone else. The cord thing has yet to be an issue for me, I have one that is either at home or with me on the road and one for the truck. I've yet to come across an instance when I needed a new battery but they are indeed replaceable on a 4/4S. Not so sure about the 5. Takes a bit of extra work but not anything horrible. Most of the battery vendors will even send ya the goofy screwdriver you need to do the swap.

Plus the Magpul case is wicked cool and you can't get that for nothing but the iPhone. :D
