Thanks, yeah I was thinking the same thing, start with the HIDs and I can add the projectors later if I want... Although knowing myself I'm sure I will, because seeing how much better they look vs the stockers it'll bug me knowing that now lol. I'm not worried about tackling the install, I know I can handle that, just don't feel like hacking up my stock stuff and risk exposing the headlights to the elements.

The 55w doesn't get too hot? That's what I had been reading, that and shorter life and color change.

Anybody with a Silverado try these? A lot cheaper than the extended plastic ones going for $82 each!

I've been running 55W HID's for almost 2 years now and haven't had any problem related to heat. Only problem I had was I got a cheap DDM kit the first time around and those faded and started flickering pretty quick. This Morimoto kit is a very high quality kit and you get a pretty good warranty on everything they offer.

Also, I could be wrong but you don't need new caps if you're just running HID's. You can drill a hole in your factory caps for the wires to run though.

Do you have a Silverado or Sierra? I looked on their site and the only video was for Sierras? The FXRs definitely look great, but are the stock projectors so bad that it wouldn't be worth doing just HIDs? What brand bulbs did you get? Your 6500k really don't look that blue at all, they look good.

I have a Silverado. Maybe it's not a video on his site but an instruction pdf or something like that. I have the bulbs from trs and the output isn't blue at all really. It has a blue hint when you're looking towards the truck. And yes the stock projectors are that bad. If you could even really call them a projector. It's crazy to me that GM lets that stuff out to the public. Not to mention, when you go fxr, you will have high beams through the projector and in the bottom buckets. I have trs LEDs in my high beams. 36f5cf77086a35a4d132f32666183f75.jpg

So I pulled the trigger on some stuff from Xenondepot. I went with them because I like how their kits use two relays to retain the factory redundancy in case one side goes out. As I had said, I wanted pure white. I was going back and forth between Xenondepot's 5000k or the Philips 4300k they offer for extra. I was leaning towards Philips as its a better brand bulb, but after speaking with a tech at Xenondepot I decided to go with the 5000k. He said even though the 4300k will colorshift it will still have a slight yellowish tint which I do not want. So I ordered the Xtreme HID H11 kit with CANbus.

I also ordered matching 5000k LED fog lights. I'll post pics when I install it all.

Does it make a difference that I'm planning on a 35w kit not 55w? Also, what brand bulbs did you get?

That is a step by step on how the install goes. Very simple on the Silverado. Thanks too Wade for the recommendation!

Thanks, looks straight forward, not that I'm really concerned about the difficulty of the install. I'm just not too keen on hacking up my dust covers and putting them back together with tape just yet. I know it's not a huge deal and they'll be out of sight for the most part, but it'll bug me, and although I know roofing tape or something like a foil tape for duct work would seal it up well enough, I'd still be a little worried about moisture getting in somehow. I'd say theres a 99% chance though that once I get my HIDs in I'm going to wind up wanting to do the retrofit regardless, just based on the pictures of how superior the FXRs look compared to the stock projectors.

Man I didn't realize the Silverado owners had it easy and can get the FXR in from the back! Looks much easier than the Sierra.

I wouldn't sweat the dust covers. If you screw one up you can buy them off of eBay for about 10 bucks. Fastheadlights heats them up and makes them bigger, I just don't have those ninja skills apparently.

Are there any options for the Stock Reflector's on a 2015 Silverado LT? Would like to upgrade my lights eventually but I haven't seen much.

Hit up fastheadlights. They have a mini H1 retrofit package for the 14/15 Silverado reflector lights!

I know alot of people have been replacing the silverado projectors with the FX-R ones. But has anyone tried just replacing the lens on the projector?

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/lenses/zkw-r-clear-lenses.html#.VrOjwVLbosU

In all honesty, if you are gonna go through the trouble of removing the projector, then replacing the lens, you'd be a lot better off just switching projectors honestly. It costs more but is so worth it!

If you do the swap check out Fastheadlights since Phil made a kit to make it easier. Let him know I sent ya

Installed my Xenondepot HIDs yesterday. I did the HID extreme 35w 5000k low beams, as well as 5000k LED fog lights. I like the look, but most imperative is the huge improvement in functionality. Being able to see at night without constantly using my high beams is awesome. I had custom retrofits and HIDs in my last car and am glad to finally have then again. As far as the stock projectors they really don't look bad, I'm happy with them for now.

What are the Silverado guys doing for the DRLs to limit needless use of the HIDs? I turned off light notification for things like unlock/lock and remote start, but obviously the DRLs are still active and it seems like a waste to have the HIDs fired during the day. Anybody have any solutions other than shutting them off every time? Anybody running anything else as their DRL?

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
