How do you get the TRS 10% code. Im ready to pull the trigger just having a hard time justifying the price. Any savings would help.

In 2-3 days they'll send you an email with a one time use code for 10% as they recognize you have stuff waiting in your cart to purchase. I think I added them to my cart on Friday and got the code yesterday. I saw some people talking about it somewhere in this thread and gave it a shot. Every little bit helps!

Without searching this whole thread, does anyone have a picture with morimoto HID's in 6500K on a sierra? Want to see what it looks like next to the LED's.

 

My DDM kit is failing and has severly lost its color and brightness so I'm switching to morimoto for now, until I get my RX350 kit down the road. I've got the Rigid DOT fogs and currently my 5000K HID's don't get anywhere close to the color, I think possibly since they are crappy kits. I'm interested to see how the 6500K bulb would compare. Or if anybody has 5500K with Rigid fogs, that would be a great pic too. I just think mine are too far gone to compare.

Just got my 10% code from TRS and getting ready to order the 35w 5500k sierra spec kit for my SLT. I saw abominable z71's post explaining that the SLT's don't need the capacitor link since the LEDs function as the DRLs.

 

I've seen a few post of people with SLTs not using the capacitor without any issues. However, the guys from TRS said they haven't seen a sierra NOT need it. So wondering what's the verdict from all the SLT owners - is it needed or not? Also, how do the 5550ks match up to the factory LEDs as far as color?

 

 

I went with the capacitor link on my 2014 SLT. No problems so far. I've been running them for 3-4 months. The color I chose was the 5500k. It's not an exact match to the LED DRLs, but pretty close. I think the angle you look at the lights with the stock projector changes the perceived color somewhat. It's more blue at that cutoff and white down below.

Thanks for the reply man. The spec kit comes with the capacitor link regardless, but if I can eliminate a point of failure then I'm all for doing that and just not installing the link. I keep going back and forth between the 4500k and 5500k. I really want pure white light and I can live with a tiny hint of blue - just don't want the blue to be overpowering.

 

Any chance you could post a few pics of yours?

Here is a pic with 35w 5500K osram cbi with rigid dually (non dot)

I think the rigids are closer to 6000K the iPhone pic made them look like a closer match to 5500K (and made the LED strips look like half are on)b679fc62923bd1ac301a05e85d376c25.jpg

First pic is 4500K Sierra spec kit, second pic is 5500K with fxr retrofit done and have since brought left side up a bit. I am also running the capacitor link, been over a year and no probs

Yea I would say so, but I was running 4500K before in stock projector and now they're 5500K in fxr. I think if you went any more than 5500K then they wouldn't match well with drl LEDs

Has anyone ran HID in non-projector housings? I know it's not ideal, but there has to be someone who's done it. I'm wondering what kit you used.

If you use any standard kit in a reflector housing you're going to be blinding all drivers on the road. Its illegal and you want to avoid that.

Yeah. Don't be "that guy". It's not just "...not ideal" but that combination has enough bright unfocused light to be hazardous to oncoming traffic and to you, as a result. It will bring attention to you by law enforcement,maybe when you least want it. Say after you've had a beer or two. There's just no justifiable reason to do it. It's irresponsible and instead of being cool, people will just think you're a horses arse punk.

I hear ya. I know it's awful, just looking for brighter light as well as more defined white-less yellow. I've ran HID's in numerous trucks w/o projectors and I aim them slightly lower which helps with oncoming traffic a little. Still not proper however.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
