HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit

I just did the projector upgrade with XB35 bulbs as they are a little brighter in the 50 watt kit. I have not had anyone flash me and the light line rarely bounces up to anyone else's eye height and mostly when it does is the higher right side.

 

I also want to take advantage of this sale, but everyone is having issues with the GMC and can't find anyone to confirm issue or no issue with the Chevy fog lights. I might just risk it and order some spare light bulbs for later. I'm thinking about putting LED in the original high beams since I don't need the lights anymore, but want the color to match.

Also what tells you it's brighter? Sorry, I know I am probably missing an obvious sign but all I can see is a difference in price.

I called and ordered mine on the phone. They said they are a little brighter. Not sure it worth the price or not but I'm happy. It is day in front of my truck at night.

Thanks. I'll order them and give them a chance. Hell, it's only $10 normally but with the discount code it only adds like $1-$2

 

Now just debating on 4500K or 5500K

 

 

EDIT:

 

Strike the debating on color temp. I just ordered the 4500K thinking the 5500K may have some blue to it. If I'm not happy with the 4500K I'll just order the 5500K at a later time. Total came out to $250 after shipping and handling. Saved me $60, happy camper!

I have 6000K and it's tiny blue tint. Blue really starts at 7000 to 8000. Daylight bulbs for the home are 6500K.

I want the FXR's, Osram 66440 CBI bulbs and the Denso ballasts but not sure what else I need.

I'd like to speak to someone at RFS but they aren't in the office until Monday and I'm not sure if the sale is through the end of Monday or ends Sunday night.

Can anyone shed light?

This will help with the color choice. The 35 watt will be more the color and the 50 watt will be more yellow.

I couldn't get the code to discount the Denso ballasts.

I ended up buying them from Amazon. $88 ea and they were NEW, not "reconditioned".

You'll need to waterproof them with epoxy potting. You can use this thermally conductive stuff or cheaper non-thermal conductive.

I intend to do a custom harness myself. I haven't settled on the relays, but I think solid state relays will be the way I go.

I had a hard time finding a good source for 9006 connectors. This place had them, but you have to piece together the plug, pins, sockets, grommets, etc.

The "Denso" ballast source I referred to on Amazon (Speed Shop) is selling counterfeit parts. They came yesterday. They are already boxed and a return label is on them .

As nice as the hids are to have, I have been having issues with my 35W morimoto kit from TRS. As of late, in the morning when I turn on the lights the driver side often does not fire up first try. I must put the truck in park, and turn the lights on and off and until they both come on. Seems like a ballast issue so I have a claim with TRS and they are more than willing to replace the ballast.

 

However, I've had a new issue that started a few nights ago where my lights will be on and I'm driving and they randomly go out altogether. Sometimes they come back on by themselves after a few minutes, if not I have to pull over and put the truck in park and turn them on and off until they fire up. Not safe and very annoying. Any idea what could be causing this? All my connections seem ok. I emailed TRS asking to just replace the whole kit since its obviously more than just ballasts, but no answer yet.

 

This isn't my first morimoto kit, and the ones I've had in the past have never done this and been good quality. I did the FXR 3.0 retrofit on my last truck (F150) and bought another FXR 3.0 kit thinking I might need to do another F150 but ended up getting the Sierra. Unfortunately I got the 2.5" projector, anyone do the retrofit without the 3" projector? I may take on the Sierra retrofit in the spring but in the meantime want to get this plug and play kit figured out. Appreciate any suggestions thx guys
