not sure what you consider is expensive or not (you have a denali and i just have a measly chevy :lol: ) but there is the Black truck thread that a guy just posted some pretty sweet 35x12.5 Nitto Ridge Grapplers...are those too aggressive or would those be up your alley?

Hey all,

 

Just created an account and got setup! Just been reading on these pages and getting familiar with the varying setups you all are running. Thanks for all the great information! First, part of me wishes I would've went 2016 front end+, so sharp with the ptm bumpers in white (originally wanted a Sierra SLT, but the Canada truck got sold out from under me)! That said, I picked up a 2015 5.3L Slate Gray CC SB LTZ fully-loaded last December. Since then I have added 2" RC level, Westin HDX Xtreme nerfs, 13% tint, spray-in bedliner, tonneau cover, MBRP exhaust, upgraded headlights to LED bulbs, & Husky floor mats (which I love over WeatherTechs for once).

Now the next step for me is to add some new shoes. I had 2011 F150 FX4 Eco CC prior and ran 2" Autosprings level and 295/60R20 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Loved the look, but hated the completely ruined and rough ride with the E-rated tires with the huge MPG losses as well (I went from mid 20's with my 3.5 TT to 12-13 city 15-16 hwy...didn't think it was going to be so steep). I believe my stock 20's, which I believe I am going to keep, run +27mm correct? I am seeing guys running 285, 295 and even 305s all stating just swaybar and UCA rub much like my F150 setup. I don't want to go as aggressive with a MT again nor E-rated if possible to stay more toward stock ride.

 

My questions are:

1) Are there any tires existing that have the more aggressive look without going E-rated and the 50 to 80lb/piece? I see the Nitto Ridge Grapplers are like 60lbs/piece and a bit lighter with fairly aggressive tread

2) If not, I am thinking clearly the 285/65/20 or 285/55/20 BFG KO2's are a likely candidate (think I like the white-wall better, but from reading don't believe are still available). Or some Toyo AT2's (Xtreme), Nitto Ridge Grappler, or GY Duratracs.

3) If having to go heavier, does the 5.3L handle it well? expected MPG losses? I removed the upfront dam/valence as well when leveling.

4) Would the 22" OEM Denali wheels bolt on or anyone do that to their chrome package Silverados? Saw a few Sierra's rocking those and I love the look and gunmetal appearance. Just not sure how that would mesh with my current chrome. Pics?

 

Any other 20" OEM chrome setups and pics would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

i have BFG KO2's (285/65r18) and am very happy with them...aggressive enough, but not overly...VERY quiet considering...way more quiet than the wrangler dura trac's I had...i've got quite a few mods that affect mpg's, but i get 17-20 pretty consitently on the hw and 15-16 in town...however, i also drive pretty conservatively...no clue if that size has the white letters, mine do, but they face the inside...

ah! no...he has a 6"...my bad...BUT...not sure that it wouldnt fit...but that pic you found looks awesome! if that would work!

Thank you! i just have a RC front level...didnt touch the rears....here is another pic, shows a little better angle and my newer bumper...i need to get it cleaned up so i can take a pic with my camper shell on it.

Hi, first post. I put a 2" level kit on my k14 Silverado and need new tires. What's the largest that will fit with a 2" kit?

well...i'm not sure if they would fit or not...but he has a 6"...but the both of those sets of tires look good...the nittos and the set you found...for the look (i think) you are going for, the ones in the pic you found would look great!!

Hey guys, first time posting here but have spent a lot of time in the past couple weeks reading and checking out your badass trucks. I wanted some opinions if that's alright, I purchased this 2017 Silverado LTZ a few weeks ago and am trying to decide on a rough country 2.5 inch leveling kit or rough country 5 inch knuckle suspension lift kit. I'm an avid waterfowl and bow hunter, I would say the extent to my off-roading with this truck will be driving through cut corn fields. I'm just not sure a 2.5 inch is exactly the look I'm going for but also don't know if a 5 inch will be too much (my wife will call me a hillbilly either way). I like a lot of your guys' setups and was just wondering what you guys would do, would like to keep my stock 20" wheels but get bigger all terrain tires and paint matched bushwacker fender flares (I know, not everyone is a fan of flares). Any input on tire size/brand and lift would be appreciated, if anyone has a picture of a similar truck that you wouldn't mind posting again that would be sweet. Thanks fellas.

I also have a 2" level, Tire shop test fitted a 285 65 18 ( 32.6 X 11.2 ) and it looked good. They recommended not going bigger than that. Look at the blacked out Z71 above, that's what he's running!

Thank You, my inspection is up next month so I'll be looking. I'm in the dirt a lot so I'll be opting for an AT tire .

Mines in the shop now getting the 2.5" Motofab level and 285/70/17 (32.7x11.2) MC MXT's on the stock wheels. Everything I've read says it shouldn't rub but I'll know for sure shortly!!! I think there are a lot of variables so we shall see....

If i would have had my way (had to trade to local dealer for trade with last vehicle & select from his lot) this would be the truck & setup I would be rocking. Perfection!

    • More is cylinder deactivation. Kia-Hyundai Ive had 4. The warranty is the same 10 years 100K miles. My grandson drives the first one 05 Elantra GT. My wife drives the second one 2011 Genesis. The Genesis still performs as new and looks great. The Elantra looks rough. He’s not kind to it. The third was a Genesis coup. The fourth was a Santa Fe. Those were my daily drivers. I don’t keep them long. Kia is the same as Hyundai with the same warranty. I looked at the K-4 today. Too small, otherwise pretty good buy. Most of Hyundai and Kia’s have a performance upgrade.

    • Great question. Answer....depends. One the volume of the crankcase, the driver that will actually be using the vehicle and the amount it uses plus the distance expected for that next trip. Couple of for instances:   Wife is going to drive Dizzy to Moline and back plus a bit around town so say 500 miles on the day. I know from years with that SUV that around town and local rural it uses about a quart in 1250 miles. But on the Interstate and her at the wheel without her anchor nagging her she'll push it and it will drop a quart in about 800 miles. Hence, around town I wait to somewhere between a quarter down to a quart down. On her trip I'd top it if it was down a few ounces and hope for the best.    Have I overfilled one? You mean by adding before it needs a full quart I assume. No, not once after finding the true fill mark.  I know the dipsticks of everything I drive and add what it needs. I learn this by doing the first oil change a quart low. Run the motor for a few minutes. Let it sit over night. Check and mark. Then add half a cup at a time making note of the place on the stick. I add through the dipstick tube with a barbeque basting bottle. Give it a few minutes to drain down and check again.    A vehicle like Dizzy that uses this much oil will take a few quarts between 3K changes. I keep one in the vehicle with the bottle and a bag. (Mindful of it's fullness) Not a big deal and never makes a mess of it. There is no such thing as "multiple quarts' in my shop for any specific oil. There will be a maximum however of the number of different oils used over the fleet.     Dizzy holds a nominal 5 quarts. So the first fill was indeed over as it actually took 4.75. My vehicles are fit with Valvomax valves so I can meter an ounce on the drain if need be. Found her mark first crack at it. Never to be repeated.    Pepper uses none between changes so I don't keep a quart in that one. Straight up 6 quarts put her dead on the full line. Check it ever fuel stop. They will surprise you when they start using.    Raven holds 3 liters or 5.44 ounces over three quarts. I add 3 quarts and 6 ounces. That gives me 5 oil changes on my orphan quart.    Lawnmower holds about 3/5 of a quart. I don't over fill it to prevent an orphan. So yea, depends. 
    • 185k on original 6.2L engine and 10 speed. 6" lift with 35" tires. Changed oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) when truck told me to. Original tranny with original fluid and no service or flush done. All highway miles. A/C compressor replaced at 155k. Oil cooler line replaced at 180k. Still daily driver. Love this truck.   This is my 3rd 6.2L vehicle (2008 Yukon Denali / 2018 Cadillac Escalade) with over 150k miles and no issues. Denali had broken motor mount at 100k.
