Well my uncle had 14 5.3 GMC and it doesn't seem to use oil he has 45 000km my 13 Chevy 5.3 has 49 000km and it drinks 3.5 liters of oil every oil change and a ton of fuel 12mpg highway and the dealer won't do nothing about it. I talked to a old mechanic and he said the old 350s were the same way some used oil and were hard on fuel and others didn't. But I'll never have another junk 5.3 again so after this truck I'll never have to worry. Its 6.0 6.2 6.6 and 5.9 Cummins from now on.

I have a 2014 with about 19900 miles. Between the first and second oil change I added 1/2 a Qt. It was the only oil needed. Every time I check it is right on the mark.

I have a 2016, 5.3 Z71, and so far no oil consumption issues. I have read that it's a 50/50 shot as to if it will consume oil, and that part of the reason it does could be related to engine break in period.

I have a 2016 5.3 and I added a 1/2 quart to bring it to full at 4300 miles but in fairness I didn't check it at delivery to see if it was actually on the full mark. I just run it as original.

I have a 2014 sierra that is burning oil real quick. my last 2 oil changes (or should I say oil fill ups) have been because there was no oil left in the engine. the truck as 63000km on it. this can not be normal. I will be shopping for something else this week.

I would sure hope so. If you had no oil left in the engine, you not only should have seen an oil light, but you also will have a seized engine!

2015 5.3 with 14K miles. I have had three oil changes at the dealer with their GM Dexos oil. I use zero oil between changes even with a trip over the Sierra mountains towing a 6000 lb trailer.

First post and claiming ZERO oil in the engine...find that hard to believe that it would be running without oil...maybe it's one of those special trucks that runs on hopes and dreams. I have heard about them, but never actually seen one. Neat to know that one is a part of this community. Welcome.

24k miles on mine. Zero oil consumption. AFM disabled at approximately 1,200 miles.

I change the oil every 5000 miles. Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w-20 and a Mobil 1 M1-212 oil filter.

If you burn a little oil, don't freak out, even Toyota, Honda, and BMW have had oil consumption issues the last 10 years.

Dealer told me if I disabled AFM it would void the warranty. True, or you don't care?

You can disable it by using the 'M5' method or the Range AFM defeat device without voiding warranty. I had my truck tuned to disable it because the way I see it, my odds for needing the warranty are 10-fold with AFM enabled and the transmission tune left stock. AFM creates way too many problems for the miniscule amount of fuel it saves.
