Okay guys.  First, I'm new to the forum.  I'm been on the computer all day, racking my brain.  I've spent some time going through this thread, but, 121 pages is a lot.  I've just purchased a 2017 Silverado 1500 2WD.  It has stock 22's with 285/45/R22's.  I'm struggling deciding between a 3/5 drop and a 4/6.  With either set up, the rear will be bagged with "auto level".  Through my research, I've seen numerous images/video demonstrating both 3/5 and 4/6 set-ups.  The problem that I have is, sometimes a 3/5 looks like a 4/6.  and sometimes a 4/6 looks even lower.  And.....really.....sometime a 3/5 looks like a 2/4.  I'm sure that a 3/5 is a perfectly safe set-up, with little if any "issues" as related to rubbing or what not.  But, what about the 4/6?  I'm really leaning towards the 4/6, but, don't wanna have something that's a bitch to drive everyday.....with rubbing or bottoming out.....or a overly rough ride.

 

The white truck is a 4/6.  So is the blue.  But, the blue truck looks lower to me than the white one.

 

This silver one says that its a 3/5.....but....it just looks lower to me than that.  Not as low as the blue one, but almost as low as the white one.

Drive it 5 or 6 miles. Then measure again. Many cars take time to settle back down. I can simply jack my Camaro or Corvette up and they sit about an inch higher till I drive them. The springs need to settle back down. It sure doesn't look like it drop another 2". Spindles are usually exact.

The blue one looks lowest. I have the exact same issue and decided I am not going to buy a kit. I am going to buy drop struts, drop spindles and flip kit. I will get the adjustable drop struts so I can move them as needed. If the back is to low I will add air bags just to lift it a little. Not going to "bag it" just the ride right kit to use to level it when pulling a trailer. 

 

This seems to give me the most flexibility at the lowest cost. I will also buy the parts in steps starting with the drop struts and removing the lift block in there rear. I will drive for a few days and then decided the next parts to get. 

 

I have been dropping trucks for 20 years. In my experience kits are just an idea and never exact. One company will say the kit is a 4" drop and one will say its a 3" drop. Its probably more like a 3.5 and they use the number they think will sell the most. Its just a fact.  Getting the exact drop or lift with in 1" is a lot of trial and error. I think I used 2 different leaf springs and 3 different blocks in an 89 B2200 last year to get within a 1/4 of what I wanted. I had to have redone that drop 6 or 7 times. 

 

You can look for a truck on here with the drop you want and ask them what they used.

lol... yah, your one of the guys asked. :) 

I was already leaning to that plan. Your setup convinced that it was still the best option. Lowered my first truck in 1995 and nothing has changed. The kits are still iffy and one piece at a time still seems to be the best way to go if you want exact.

Front you're at about 3.5 drop. Mine was a perfect 4" and my measurement is 17.5

 I can live with that. I have a 10mm ring under the spring perch as per the instructions for non autoride trucks.  It says with auto ride to run no ring, I wonder If I take the ring out how much more it will drop?  I kinda wanted to put an 8mm ring in place of the 10mm in on the right side to make up for the 3/8'' lean though.  

 

Does the rear look correct for 5''?

1 ring = 1/2" of drop    

 

I have coilovers I have to install. Maybe look into doing those. Easier to adjust and get perfect. 

 

Ill have to measure my rear    I'll do it in the morning

I'm running a 2/4 that measured out 3/5, hope that helps :). I think the black wheel well trim can throw off the drop visually too, so mine are painted. One other thing I considered, I'm 6'5", so I didn't want to feel like I was crawling up to get out of the truck.

You're roughly at 3.5/5.5 from my stock numbers to now

    • Missing pieces of the Assembly   Detergency vs Solvency   Not the same thing. Detergency is the mechanism that surrounds solid particulates preventing amalgamation. Usually accompanied by a Dispersant whose job it is to keep those encapsulated particles in Suspension. Solvency keeps things that can be dissolved in solution.    Salt is a solid that can be dissolved. Pepper is a solid that cannot be dissolved. A detergent/dispersant is effective on pepper but a solvent is more effective on salt. As long as the solids remain in either state, dissolved or dispersed then they can be be removed with the oil upon change.    How many wranglers does it take to herd cats? Depends on how many cats your herding. How much sponge does it take to soak up water? How much water is there to soak up? Point is most oil blends start with some herding ability and next to zero sponge and recently even fewer wranglers are being sent to do the same job.    So you start with a dozen cowboys and zero cows but at the drive progresses you pick up cows along the way, but not cowboys. At some point you have more cows that the wranglers can handle and some leave the herd. Deposits. And the API has an acceptable number of cows they are willing to let loose. In the ideal world zero is the right number for he rancher but to the butcher....a few lost is fine. This cow is beat to death. Let's move on....   Solvency isn't something oils on the Walmart shelf care about AT ALL. Problem is, you motor does. Fuels driven varnish sticks rings and only a solvent can keep them in check. The bet is that the solids driven portion that plug the expander rings and the oil drain backs and VVT screens and AFM screens will be an issue long before varnish is. Not that it wont be but if they market well enough the consumer can be kept ignorant enough to either believe it is "normal" (A quart in 1 or 2K is normal) OR is kept at bay longer than the first owner is likely to hang on to the unit. Solvency cost money.    Now the OEM's have John Q. Public buffaloed into the belief that the number cows accumulated along the trail is a known and predictable CONSTANT. It isn't. Nor is the rate at which they crossed paths with them. Only the number of wrangles is constant. Or was. Each new generation of oil sees fewer and fewer of them.    So what happens when the number of cowboys is lower (lower TBN) with each seasons trail but the trial is longer (OCI) and the number of cows along that trail continues increase? (Conditions that promote deposits).    For awhile the blenders were on to something. Better bases are harder to degrade (fewer cows) but that was overtaken by a longer trail (OCI) and improved breeding (More cows) while continuing to reduce the cowboy staffing levels (TBN/Aniline #).    Marketing has been successful. We've fired most of the staff, cows breed line bunnies, the trail is ten times longer and we've convinced the boss his ranch is in better shape that it ever was.    That kids is just the cleaning side. The side few pay attention to.
