I used Black and Golds suggestion of tapping into the pink BCM connector and was able to make my tap in without cutting insulation. I created "male spade tips" by tinning the stripped leads and inserted them on the back side of the connector, zip tied it so it would not come loose. This is an easy location to also test with a multimeter.

Don't know why this isn't standard equipment on these trucks. Two more wires in the harness and a 10 dollar actuator is not much to ask.

I agree. I don't know about Ram or Toyota, but I read that on the new 2015 F150's, a power tailgate lock will be standard on XLT and higher models.

You're correct. New Ford will have power locking gates and a button on their remotes to make the gate open and slowly drop on its own (not sure about if the same button can make the gate close). When I saw the video on Youtube, all I thought was what the other guys would do if i walked up to my truck on a job site and hit that button to make the gate drop before i got to it... they'd probably fill my bed with tampons the next day to be honest.

I intalled mine yesterday. The only problem i had was it kept unlocking when i turned the ke back verticle. I took it back apart a few times & sprayed new cam with silicone spray to no avail. Then i figured out if you hold the handle out while rotaing the key back verticle it can't unlock. This is fine because i'll probably never use the key agian anyway. The install took me about 3 hrs. Including 1/2 hour troubleshooting the cam issue. Great product & great instructions given here.

Installed my pop & lock today on my new 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab standard box SLT and it went great. Thank you to Motomedic and all who contributed to this thread. It helped a lot!

I decided to go with pressing the unlock on the keyfob twice to unlock the tailgate. Here's the wiring that worked:

- vehicle's fat brown with yellow stripe attached to the green pop & lock wire

- vehicle's fat gray with green stripe attached to the blue pop & lock wire

When I was finished, I found that I couldn't lock the tailgate with the key. After investigating, I found the new C-clip was moving with the key, causing the locking mechanism to flip to unlock when I returned the key to 12 o'clock to remove it.

The fix: I had to remove the C-clip and re-install it so that the mouth of the C-clip was facing "down" towards the hinge point of the tailgate. Originally I had the mouth of the C-clip facing "up." Hope that helps someone on their install.

Thanks again to a great thread.

I'm sure you wouldn't catch hell for paying $10K more for the new Ford over the Silverado. LOL

Just installed today using the BCM connection. I could not get a good connection stuffing wires into the back of the factory plug so I ended up using the scotchloks. Thanks for posting and saving time id'ing the wires. My lock did not come with a new c-clip...I will call to see if it was a mistake, or if they have changed the kit.

Installed mine yesterday on my 14 Silverado. Thanks for the write up, instructions and pictures were quite helpful. I followed the original instructions posted and had no trouble at all, worked first time.

Thanks again

Finally got around to ordering this. Finally got a need to keep the tailgate locked all the time now that I have a bed cover. I think I will do a video of the install and post it in here.

Exactly. This should be standard equipment for every full-size truck made today... or at least a factory option.

+1 on factory option.

Installed yesterday, took about an hour. Great write up. Used the tan and brown wire and the grey and green wire so the tailgate unlocks with the back doors.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
