Installed a Pruveeo Q5 Dashcam today. Hard wired it too so no ugly wires. Also it needed to be hard wired in order to have the auto start/stop function (since our cigarette lighter outlets are always on).

Needed to pull off a couple panels but no big deal. Wired to the SEO/ALC fuse which if my research is correct, is unused unless you have roof lights. This location is on with ignition on only.

Most important part was getting the wire behind the curtain airbag. You don't want that thing malfunctioning when you need it!

Finished result is barely noticable. The Pruveeo Q5 is the one with the 1080p Sony sensor. There are other Pruveeo models out there for less but video quality is pretty good on this one. Still pretty inexpensive though if you ask me. $50 bucks on Amazon.

Thanks for reading!

Jon

Got my new rims installed! They are the Method NV 20x9 and the tires are off my factory rims which are the BFG KO2 in 275/60/20.

Do you have a link on how to do this?

I found it on the $50 or less mods thread, but basically you can use a wire or two diodes an insert into the connectors below the steering wheel (driver foot area). One side 26 brown and other 26 pink. Here is a pic so you have a better idea.e772ccbb98a69e33c48eac8953a672d8.jpg

For the diodes do you run one of them one way and the other one the opposite way?

Thats correct. This way, the Cargo light comes on when in reverse, and the reverse light comes on when you hit the Cargo light button. Since diodes are one way, a wire jump will accomplish the same thing.

Completed my swap.

With Zmnypit's help I didn't have to cut anything. He made up a harness from what we had and it worked perfect. Not sure why Gen 5 didn't just go that route from the start.

In progess:

Very true. The reason I used the diodes is cuz I had already ordered them and the wire I had was a bit too thick so the diodes were much easier to insert.

Sold it on eBay about 2 months ago now and paid off some student loans. Then I sold my 2013 Passat TDI (commuter car) back to VW. So last Monday I purchased a new 2017 Passat R Line as my daily driver. Kind of funny because a little after I sold my truck I also bought a 900lbs liberty safe. Guess what I needed to movie it...a truck lol. I'm eye balling one of these 2017 ZR2's but I only want one if it has the 8 speed with the diesel.
