Voice Command

Howdy! I just purchased a 2014 Silverado LT CC with the 8inch screen. I have had the truck for 2 weeks this Saturday and twice since I have had it, my voice command has failed to work. On these two occasions, I have pushed the steering wheel button and received a message that states, "The chosen language does not support voice command". When I tried the voice command button on the touch screen, I received the message, "Voice command not available". I turned the truck off for a few minutes and restarted it and volla, the voice command feature is available again. I do think it is important to note that the chosen language is English, just in case someone would like to bring this up. Again, it has only happened twice, and restarting the truck has "reset" the voice command each time. Although I had ot pull off the freeway and in to a gas station parking lot to do so. Curious if anyone out there has experienced the same issue. Looking forward to your replies.

Hey nvrnuf4me,

I am sorry you have experienced some difficulties with your voice command function. If it acts up again and you would like to have it addressed by your local dealership I would be happy to assist in setting that up. Feel free to reach out via PM if this is something you would like me to help you with.

Sincerely,

not sure if it helps, but im a service tech for Harley Davidson and on the 14 models the radio is interactive also. we actually started receiving and selling bikes before a radio software update was issued. we had to update many bikes that were already sold as well as update all bikes we are currently receiving prior to selling. my opinion is these software updates will not change. I think manufacturers use this equipment so it can be easily updated instead of replaced whenever an issue arises.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will try to get in to the dealership this weekend and talk to them about it. I will post an update once I have talked to the service department.

Update: I took my truck in to the dealership and in the 3 days they had it, they could not duplicate the issue. When I went to pick up, the voice command did not work and I was able to show the service writer. I was told to leave it, but no loaners were available. I decided I would keep my truck and bring it back when my seat bracket showed up. A week later, I returned to the dealership for the seat bracket install. The voice command not working did repeat itself for the tech. GM Tech support decided the radio needed to be flashed. Four days later, I went in to pick up my truck. When I got in the truck to leave and started it, I noticed the DIC was blank. I brought this to the attnetion of the service writer and the next thing I know, the tech who flashed the radio and the service manager were at my truck having a conversation that I could not hear. They decided they needed to order a new guage cluster. Another week went by and I finally got my truck back and everything worked. I drove the truck home and turned it off. When I got back in my truck, the voice command did not work! I called my service writer and was told to drive it around for a bit and see if it comes on (it didn't). After work I started my truck and true to form, the voice command worked. Yesterday when I started the truck to go to work, the voice command did not work. I took my truck to the dealership first thing and told the service writer that it was not working again. The service writer (a different one than the one I have been using as that person was off yesterday) came out to the truck with me and I showed her. She pulled my truck forward to the bay door and turned it off. Wouldn't you know it, when the tech started it to being it in the bay 30 minutes later, the voice command worked. After an hour, the service writer came out and told me they couldn't duplicate the problem and that there was nothing they could do at this point. Frustrating for sure. There are a few more issues I have with this dealership service and my truck, but this post is long enough.

All of that to state, the update did not work. According to the tech who flashed the radio explained to me that the flash must have shown a problem that was within the DIC control module.

My voice command and power folding mirrors (using key fob to open and close) stop working on my Z 71. Dealership re flashed computer and in about an hour I was fixed up.

Did you ever get your truck fixed? I've taken mine in twice for this and it has yet to work when I leave. Not even once, it's just been not working for the past two months or so. They claim to fix it but it doesn't work as soon as I get in the truck at the dealership.
