So where do you leave it and how do you open your garage when you want to pull in?

Hi Gang,

For those who have the Homelink from factory in your Sierra/Silverado...... Not that you've ever had to open up the overhead console and look - but the actual Homelink module - is that something I can order separately without needing to order the entire overhead console?

 

I just bought a 2016 Canyon SLT which doesn't have Homelink. My husband has installed many Homelink setups in previous vehicles (including this writeup on a corvette: http://www.lieblweb.com/homelink.html)

 

We're looking at our options - while wanting to keep it clean and make it as factory looking at possible. I thought I'd ask about the fullsize modules and see if that's something I can order separately. We're still poking around to see how we want to do this .....

Hey ladies & gents,

 

Just to give a quick update on this, I know this is a bit late but for anyone else wanting to know this. You FIRST need to go to some place like www.gmpartsonline.net and drill down to you make/year/model and ensure there is a option for a replacement for the trim/harness/buttons/transmiiter for your vehicle, IF you DO see these options, you more than likely will be able to do this OEM style and not aftermarket (not guaranteed based on you situation). The transmitter for mine is as stated by another guy, that all is needs is power, it doesn't connect to anything else like the vehicle computer or anything, it is self contained. I decided to do the research on this after being told from the dealership, "You can't add this to your vehicle".. Upon researching this myself, I found I could buy a new harness (to have the OEM HomeLink plug on it), Trim plate (to be able to add the buttons), the buttons themselves and the transmitter. All in all I think I spent about 180.00 to keep it OEM. I WAS able to do it. I have a video that show tips and tricks on a 2014 silverado LT and changing the said above parts on the overhead console.. I made a youtube video on this make/model/color for my truck. I seriously hope is helps others wanting to do the same thing. I also upgraded my OEM 4.2" radio (i04) without OEM backup camera to a 8" (i05 - no nav) with OEM backup camera on the same truck. I'm getting together a small video on this as well and post it on my channel in youtube.

From what I read on here, the sunglasses holder is apparently too small for most sunglasses. That's where I tucked my remote.

my Oakleys barely fit.. ...i use to wear cables on them and hang them from the rear view in my old truck. .but in this one.. they hit the dash.... booo

Thank you for the detail, I'll be ordering these items also for my 2016.

For $180 I think it's worth it, if I was to have ordered the package that had this option it would have cost much more...then again I purchased my truck used.

Looking forward to doing this DIY project.

New Info. Just bought a grey overhead console off EBay from priorityautomotive2015 with homelink. He says they are new but are missing the airbag light as you can see in the picture. I also had a $20 coupon from ebay which lowered the price at check out.to $145 shipped. Great communication with Ebayer if you have any questions. The auction says he has 5 more units. When I get the console I'll see if it is plug n play on my 2016 Silverado LT Crew Cab. I will post my findings

I have been using these for years.

 

 

Since I can't park my truck in my garage, I'm paranoid about someone having easy access to my garage. Granted, I keep my entry door locked all the time and I don't have anything valuable in the garage.

 

Is homelink connected to constant power and able to be used if someone breaks into the truck?

unfortunately I have windows in my garage so they could break into my garage just as easily if not easier than my truck

 

Once I connect my homelink I will let the window down and see if it will work by climbing through the window. I think if I open the door the alarm will go off but maybe not. Will try

Finally got the console with the homelink Installed it Everything has power all buttons work. But when I go to program it It won't learn the code. It flashes slowly and just keeps flashing slowly until it times out. Tried 3 different transmitters. Put a new battery in the one transmitter and still no program. Any thoughts?
