Ordering constraints

Thought I would share my story of the fun I have had ordering my new GMC. I have convinced myselft to go with the 6.2L since I like how it drives more than the 5.3L and I dont buy a truck for gas milage. I started this process about 2 months ago and was told the 6.2L is on constraint as were the 22" wheels I wanted. The sunroof and rear sliding window were also on constraint if I wanted to do something other than the Denali. Four weeks ago my dealer tried to place an order on a Denali for me. It didnt "take". I contacted another local dealer this past friday who said they were able to order me either a Denali or all terrain with the 6.2L because they apparently were allotted more. The following morning the first dealer told me the order they placed a month ago "took" but minus the sunroof and the 22" factory wheels I wanted and there is no way to change the order. So...apparently I am getting almost what I wanted minus the 22" wheels which shopchevyparts.com tells me it is on a "red list". I guess the benefit is that if the rebates dont stay attractive when (if) the truck arrives, I will walk away given the fact it is not what I ordered.

Anyone else having this much fun trying to spend $50k+ on a truck?

Ordered mine, Sierra SLT, on March 31. Still waiting for order to be accepted due to a constraint on the integrated trailer brake controller.

I placed my order for a 2014 Denali with the 6.2 on February 1st, it ended up taking several weeks for it to be accepted because of restraints. I had to modify the order and change the black 22" wheels that I had requested because GM told the dealer they stopped manufacturing them. The truck was built on March 26th and I have yet to see anything. Supposedly it is stuck on a train somewhere circling the nation because it's been at code 4200 for almost 3 weeks now. Hopefully I will see it sometime this month.

That's so strange. I ordered mine March 7th and it arrived in dealer lot April 15th. 5 weeks and a few days. I was expecting months based on the info I've read online. And this was definitely not one they had "in the pipeline" because I had several specific things that I had to have.
I'm not sure how accurate this "constraint" info really is.
I had many of the things I've seen listed as "constraint" on the truck and it didn't seem to slow down the process at all.
Under 6 weeks start to finish is pretty good I think. Now i'm just fighting with dealer over price but otherwise as far as build time it was very quick. I could have been driving it last week if I had wanted to.

I ordered my truck on 3/3 and it was buit on 4/10 with a bunch of constraints. the dealer called me 4 days after I ordered and asked if I wanted to change anything and I said no, I would rather wait.

The first dealer you ordered from that said it took is trying to force the truck on you, they should have notified you to ask if you still want the truck without those options. Sounds like they put the order in anyway. Thats why the first step is event code code 1100 peliminary order, gm gives the dealer 3 notices to respond if the have the allocation, and comfirms constraints etc... GM also can deny order or change it and will ask dealer if they still want to proceed with the order. i wouldnt accept the order, sounds like they are desperate to make a sale. if it was just the wheels no big deal, but the sunroof would be a deal breaker for me. But theres no way to change it is BS, they had plenty of chances to go over it with you. I think the 2nd dealer was the right choice Either way they are nice trucks, just dont think the dealer bs politics should get in the way of what we want when order a high priced vehicle when sales are severly slow, they should be like Burger King have it your way lol

'Max tow' constraint (which was Mar 24) didn't apply to SLT. Max tow includes brake controller. Hmmmm...

I did not order the Max Tow package. The Integrated trailer brake controller was a separate option.

ITBC didn't show as 'constrained' in the distribution updates.

Good news! Talked to my guy today, I have a TPW of May5/14! Apparently an allotment opened up at my dealership last week for a 6.2. Currently sitting @3100 code, est. delivery 1st or 2nd week of June

Update. So, I received the "build sheet" on my order which was majically accepted. GM decided to drop not ony the sunroof but apparently the trailer brake controller as well. I call this the deal breaker, especially when the dealership tells me they put through an order which was just accepted for basically the same vehicle only with the 5.3! I wish I liked the new Dodge trucks. Not only do they not have all this @%?& going on, they will send you emails with updates to let you know if your truck is in paint, shipping, or where it is without changing your order as they feel based on poor planning on their part! It also comes with better features. I remain a GM truck guy so I will just have to tough it out. I just wish they would have finished redesigning the truck with things like rear heat controls and/or rear heated seats and maybe have the tailgate lock work off the factory remote like many of the entry level SUVs do. How sweet to drop the gate with your FOB! So GM, if you are reading this, I am available to moonlight as a design consultant as I am sure many on this site would be willing to do. I apparently have time since I wont be out driving my new truck any time soon.

^^sorry to hear this load of garbage^^ How can the dealership cancel out stuff you agreed upon when ordering in the first place? Smh

So, the first dealership claims they are looking for dealer trade options daily. Texted him about trying to put in another order. He said he was busy with customers. I told him to give me a time. About 1 1/2 hours later he responded. In the interim I called dealer #2. Told them exactly what I wanted. 10 min later he called and said they actually ordered one almost exactly like it a while ago and it is scheduled to arrive May 5th. I drove down and got pricing. they are trying to locate the SEU 22" split 6-spoke rims which with tires retail at about $4K but he will take the Denali wheels on trade for what I think is a fair price. They are also working on swapping the Denali grill for the All Terrain grill. I therefore accomplished more in less than an hour today then I have accomplished since mid march at dealer 1. MAN!

By the way, why didn't dealer 1 see dealer 2's order if they were truly looking? They are only 40miles apart?

OK big D, what catback do you think will sound the best on the new 6.2?

glad to hear you got a helpful dealership, now the wait continues lol

as for catbacks? I was really happy with a borla xr-1 muffler swap on my old 6.2.. sounded mean. still a month away for my truck, but I'm waiting for borla to release their catback systems. hopefully they release an atak version. another option is corsa. i've never actually heard corsa in person, but that's another system i'm debating

constraints didnt hold up my order at all really, ordered 3/3 picked up today 4/30 didnt think id see it til mid-late may, as for the 2015 yukons what a mess the orders are in cause of constraints, watched my guy feild calls on orders placed 3-4 weeks ago, people not happy. not many XL's on the ground dealers not looking to swap. I would safely say that 2015 1500's are probally gonna have similar issues on orders, theres a LONG list of constraints, and the wheels, motors, sunroofs etc...... kinda glad I didnt wait, looks like i would have waited til sept if i ordered in july

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
