Newbie chiming in on the subject. I just picked up my 2016 z71 and I am trying to decide which path to take. I do plan on getting a lift, and will be doing a good deal of sand driving. Should I downsize from my 18"s to 17"s and get a larger sidewall? Will they be that much better on the sand?

 

Appreciate any replies in advance!

Sand the smaller the wheel and taller the sidewall the better. When you deflate the foot print will get larger and allow you to float on top of the sand. 18's will be fine but a 17 is better if you are changing wheels anyway.

17s and 37s here. I like a smaller rim and bigger tire. If i wanted 20s or 22s i'd get a...naw who am i kidding i don't want 20s or 22s

20s with 35s look good on non lifted truck and up to 6" lifted

 

22s with 35s look good on lifted trucks 6-9"
22s with low pro look good on slammed trucks

22s with 37s+ look good on any truck lifted 10"+

 

24s with 37s+ look good on any truck lifted 10"+

24s with low pro look good on slammed trucks

In my opinion, a smaller wheel and bigger tire is better. They are trucks, after all.

First time I went down a dirt road I ditched the 20" and went 18" with just a little taller tire. Was like night and day in the ride. 20" are now for sale. So to me taller sidewall for a mountain truck is way better.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. I guess I'll see how things go with the 18"s and a good tire, once I can find a leveling kit for the z71. Don't plan on a lift until next year. Can't wait to have my truck looking as clean as you guys!
