This pedal flex thing is real.

 

For the record this is a 2017 with almost 300 miles on it.

 

I shimmed between the plastic and the firewall with a piece of 3/16 steel about 1.25" wide and 3" long. It does not move at all now.

I've already noticed a more steady throttle. No lag due to it flexing and no harsh gear hunting from it flexing back or over throttling to compensate for the flex. This is a must fix.bc3d3edca2d71335bd06e8798360c8f9.jpg

I have adjustable pedals and it was joke with the play/flex. I removed the whole assembly down to the plastic mount that has bolts attached to it.

I placed 2qty 1/8" thick plastic washers 1.125" in diameter over the 3qty bolts and put pedal assembly back and tightened down. I then took a plastic shim like a wood shim yet plastic and cut it down. At this point I pried up plastic mount and squeezed caulk and shim behind.

 

Took truck for "Hot Lap" and this thing now has probably 100% better throttle response! The best and first MOD evey body should be doing! Thanks OP why didn't I open this thread 1yr ago?

I've been anxious to try this fix to cure what I think is crappy throttle response. I just started looking at the videos posted and mine doesn't move like that. It's fully seated against the floor/firewall area. I can pull out on the whole assembly and the pedal moves up with it. So I think there's an unfortunate group who have this bracket/assembly bent or warped, so it flexes down where it should be with any pressure.

 

Kinda bummed, because I wanted to do this fix and gain some throttle response.

The difference is night and day. I slipped a small wood shim behind and between the left side and bottom bolts, took it for a drive without even thinking... backed out of the drive way and nearly chirped the tires with the standard amount of throttle to get going.

Your welcome. I cannot believe how many people have done this mod. I thought it was just me coming from BMW's and had a very different expectation for a pedal. Turns out is a crap design that my 4yr old daughter could of done in pre-school.

I have a 2015 5.3, non adjustable pedals. I pulled the carpet back a bit and was able to jam a wood shim in there and it achieved the fix (cant see it, does not look bad in my opinion. Much easier than a bunch of bolts). No tools, no cutting, didnt take anything apart. It was not night and day in my case, BUT I for sure do feel it improved throttle response. I feel more connected to the motor. Easy, quick, cheap fix for a bit more of a real feel into the machine.

I've done it now too. Cut up a plastic scraper and stacked enough pieces to get a good fit and wrapped some electrical tape around the stack before stuffing it between the plastic mount and firewall. Makes a huge difference when I'm travelling slowly around parking garages etc and am trying to to apply light throttle.

Picked up a used 2015 about 2 weeks ago and it's not as bad as some others I've seen here, but mine is maybe 1/8". Will mess with tonight and compare.

Shoved a small piece of 1/8" plywood up under there. Definitely a different feel (a better feel) on the pedal between pressing the accelerator to the engine's reaction.

Hey, I have the adjustable pedals on my 2018 and the entire pedal seems loose and moves loosely in every which direction. I'm not sure if I have a fluke or if this is normal between all of the adjustable pedal models. I had a 2014 with non adjust and it had minimal flex but I still did this mod. Looking at my 2018 It doesn't look like as easy of a solution.

 

Any way you could post some pictures or more detailed process of what you did? Would be appreciated if you did.

I have a detailed written instructions under one post! I am not great with computers but the instructions are EXACT and will help you very much.....It never fix the "intended" floating aspect of pedal but will stop the "actual flex in materials and delayed throttle responses enormously" My post is legit and more involved than a paint stick fix.....It's a fix that your never coming back to "fix again or it might have moved etc" good luck son! Stay away from the ecoboost's man I hate ecoboost's!

    • Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose  
    • I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose  
    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
