One Stop MPG with Lift+Tires Thread

Recommended Posts

I would like to try to see if we could get folks with different lifts and wheel combos to post their observed before and after MPGs in one consolidated spot. There are lots of threads for different specifics and then a smattering of replies amongst the hundreds of pages of lift threads. This would be a very valuable resource for us who are still considering which lift is the right one

Please post as much of the following info as possible so we can factor in all the variables. I think this would be really handy to have all in one place! Thanks!

2.5 level made no change. Increase is because I have gotten more efficient at driving the truck.

I am going to install tires tomorrow and drive for a week then I am going to remove the air damn.

I am making one change at a time to see the impact of each.

Cold weather last 2 days, I have been in the 12's

Never drove the truck without the lift so I have no prior data.

THats pretty darn good mpg lift or not!

That is! From what I can gather, staying below 75 is worth big mpg. Staying below 65 is another big step. One guy was driving around in the 60 mph range and getting fantastic mileage.

That's true without a lift too, stock with the 342 gear I get almost 22 MPG at 72 MPH. At 75 MPH Im down to 19 MPG running 93 gas. Just a little more info for your comparison.

Summary: Started good, ended worse.

There should be another note as to if you're using the computer or hand calcs for the mileages.

concur on the staying below 65. Country roads are really the mpg highlight of this truck. I have done 25mpg over a 50 mile stretch before.

I hope we get some more replies on this topic. I was hoping to get enough data to draw some conclusions about diameter, vs mass, vs, gearing, vs air resistance.

Backing mine up with hard data. No embellishments here! All data hand calculated using the Gas Cubby app for iPhone.

2.5" level kit, air dam removed and Toyo Open Country AT 275/72/18 tires on factory wheels have been on since day 1.

You'll notice the last couple of entries had some wavering in the graph. This is because in the last two weeks the truck has been driven from Houston to New Orleans and Houston to Dallas. These were the first real road trips the truck has seen. Mileage dipped significantly due to my wife and her heavy foot because she was excited to get to the football games both times (Go Buckeyes!) and was doing 75 - 85 mph each time. Most other times on the graph were normal around town driving and to and from work, a mixture of city and highway.

I had the kit installed for about a month before I changed the stock tires and the fuel economy was barely changed. The tires are what made the loss in fuel economy. The extra ground clearance and traction is all worth it.
