Is the "rugged off road bottom strut spacer" the factory strut bottom? Or this an aftermarket item that was added?

Other than this, is your suspension all stock?

Maybe with spacers to offset, but not at +27. You'll probably just move the rub from UCA / sway bar to the fender though. 
Im not very tire savy. I was going off tire rack. Dang i want to go wider tires.

So whats the widest and tallest i can go with stock z71 wheels and bilstein set to max?

The Rugged Off Road spacer is similar to that of the Rough Country spacer and mounts at the bottom of the factory or aftermarket strut.  I just added the Bilstein adjustable/leveling struts but left them at the factory setting and left the aftermarket strut spacer installed as I didn’t want to use the new struts to lift the front, I only wanted a more controlled ride.  I have no rubbing with the LT 275/60/20 BFG All Terrain TA KO2 tires..

oh ok! So was your spacer a 1.75"?

 

If you have the spacer and leave the bilstein on lowest (stock) setting, do you get a better ride than having the bilstein maxed out?

All GM 1500's produced after April 1st 2016 have the STAMPED STEEL UCA's. You should have the steel UCA's that are more TUBULAR in design. The Stamped Steel UCA's in newer trucks are flatter and seem wider. Basically you can upgrade the UCAs to an aftermarket Tubular design with smaller footprint if you had the newer version, which you don't. Some guys replace the stamped steel because if you lift to high, it becomes distorted and the ball joint could fail. My Stamped Steel UCA's have no retention clips for Ball joint. None of them do. Bilsteins are designed to keep the stock UCA's. 

 

You should be good with the STEEL UCA's and the Bilstein's and the 275/60/20. The problem is none of this is 100% and every truck seems to be a little different. I'm saying this should work because you are keeping the exact width of stock tire, being ( 10.8" )tire width with the 275/60/20. With a 27mm offset the inner sidewall of new tire should be exacty where it is now. The outer sidewall should also be in the same positon. You will have a taller tire (33") vs 31.9" and increase the diameter of the entire tire by a hair over 3". 

 

Pay attention to measurement of tires you are looking at.. Some are slightly taller or wider and even a more aggressive tread can come into play between two tires being sold in the same size. 

 

Go out and start your truck and turn your wheel all the way in each direction and you will see their isn't a lot of extra room with the silly squared wheel well. They sell plates to cover up any trimming on the lower rear corner of the front wheel well. It's not hard, but damn, hard to get excited about trimming steel on your truck. I've watched vids and pretty simple. Big thing is not to break the plastic clips that hold the small black trim piece in place. Cut, Deburr the steel and hit it with some paint and cover the cut with a plate that is sold for this purpose. 

 

I'm adding variables for other guys trying to figure this out. Go to Youtube and search Norcal mod.Also, Zone makes a spacing plate for trimming. This is a pretty helpful video.

I like the ride now as compared to having the stock Ranchos with the bottom strut spacer.  I can’t answer as to how the truck would ride with the Bilsteins maxed out in lift.  Paying $50 for the spacer and leaving the struts in stock position only costs $50 more.  I didn’t want to rely on the strut giving me the lift as I wanted the Bilsteins for the controlled ride as compared to the Ranchos.  If you don’t like having the spacer you can always take it out later and changing the setup on the Bilsteins.  Just my opinion.

 

I also upgraded the rears to Bilsteins 5100 series and think this is how the truck should come from the factory.

I think you're gonna to have fitment issues with that size tire.  Plus a 305 shouldn't be mounted to a 8.5" wheel, it's too wide.

 

265/70r18 or 275/70r18 is what you want.

Mine don't, what's your offset?  I'm on a 1.2" setting and 20x9 +24.

Stock. +27.

 

Mine were at max height. Point isn't can 275's fit, point is that 305's very likely won't since 275's are very hit or miss. Also depends on which UCAs though.

I’m pretty sold on 275/60-20 with either the Bilsteins maxed out or a 1.5” lower strut spacer. 

Ive had my truck a year now (2018) and I really don’t have any issues with the rancho suspension it came with (Z71). 

So lower strut spacers are sounding like a good idea at the moment. As long as it’ll still let me run 275/60-20.

Those are OEM wheels that came with the truck? What year is your Truck? If that's a late model 1500, the 20" OEM rim measures 20x9 with a +27mm Offset.

Cannot wait to get them off road and see how they feel in that scenario as well.  Putting the Ranchos on CL tomorrow.  Maybe I can get someone to buy them.  Bottom line..... money well spent. 

 

Just do it, don't wait.

    • I really wanted to go to the Fox 2.5's But they were like ~$1,500 vs ~$425 for the Bilsteins. And my research on FOX shocks was that they do not have a great reputation for longevity. I am sure they the FOX's are fantastic, but I know from experience the Bilsteins are rock solid for at least 150k miles. 
    • Conditions for Meeting a Cold Start   The ignition voltage is between 10 and 15 V. The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) at start-up is less than 42°C (108°F). The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 2–32°C (36–90°F). The engine is OFF for greater than 6 hours or the following conditions must be met: The start-up IAT minus start-up ECT are within 12°C (22°F). The start-up ECT minus start-up IAT are within 50°C (90°F). Fuel level is between 25 and 75 %.   Circuit/System Verification Verify that all I/M System Status indicators report YES, and that no I/M Test DTCs are present.If any I/M Test DTCs are set Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. If no I/M Test DTCs are set All OK. Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Set Procedure   Warning: Refer to Road Test Warning. Note: Do NOT touch the accelerator pedal until told to do so. A change in TP Sensor angle or an increase in engine speed may invalidate this portion of the test.   Note: An I/M Test DTC will not be stored or erased from the ECU except at the end of trip processing, which occurs 5 s after ignition OFF.   Ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start listed above. If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, perform the EVAP Service bay test if applicable. Turn OFF all of the accessories; HVAC system, other electrical loads, including aftermarket/add-on equipment, etc., and open the hood.   Set the vehicle parking brake and ensure the vehicle is in park for automatic transmission or neutral for manual transmission.   Start and idle the engine for 2 min.   Close the hood, release the parking brake and Accelerate at part throttle to 72–80 km/h (45–50 mph) with this speed maintained until the engine reaches operating temperature, 8–10 min.   Continue operation under these conditions for an additional 6 min.   Accelerate at part throttle to 90 km/h (55 mph) with this speed maintained for 2 min.   Release the accelerator pedal for at least 10 s. This will allow the vehicle to enter the decel fuel cut off.   Safely stop the vehicle, with the engine in drive for automatic or neutral with the clutch pedal depressed and parking brake applied for manual. Allow the vehicle to idle for 2 min.   Shift the vehicle to park for automatic and neutral for manual. Turn OFF the ignition and exit the vehicle. Do NOT disturb the vehicle for 45 min.   Observe the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Status with a scan tool. All of the I/M System Status indicators should display YES.   If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, turn OFF the ignition, ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start, and repeat steps 6-11 three more times, or until the EVAP I/M System Status indicator transitions to YES. If the indicator continues to display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table to identify the DTCs that did not run.   If any of the I/M System Status indicators display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table for the indicator which did not display YES. The I/M System DTC Table identifies the DTCs associated with each I/M System Status Indicator.   Observe the I/M Test DTC information with a scan tool. Verify there are no I/M Test DTCs present. If an I/M Test DTC is set, diagnose the DTC using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and refer to Inspection/Maintenance System Check.   Observe the engine DTC information with a scan tool. Verify no DTCs are present. If a DTC is set, diagnose using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. After repairs, perform the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure to verify no further DTCs are set.       Looks like one procedure to me.  Repeated as necessary.
    • My 2020 AT4 6.2 has had the valve spring issue addressed at ~200 miles, front cover/pump replaced at 18k, water pump at 34k and idler pully at 65k.  I would agree with ditching by 100k unless you elect to go with upgraded hardware...say built 10l80 and an lt4 or l8p swap.
