Full retail for a full set of Fox 2.5's is $2290:  https://www.ridefox.com/filter.php?m=truck&p=&make=Chevrolet&model=Silverado+1500&year=2018-2007&position=ALL

$1500 would be one heck of a sale.  The Falcons are also available cheaper if you shop around (though not a 45% discount).  I was pointing out another choice in a similar price range of those looking for 6112's.   If everybody waiting for the 6112's was willing to spend the money on Fox 2.5's, they'd have them already.

Ah yes, if you go full blown they aren't cheap :D

I was more thinking the entry level 2.5s that are a bit cheaper: https://www.americantrucks.com/chv-fox-25-factory-coilover-ifp-shocks-3in-lift-fr-0717.html?utm_content=AT%20Handling%20-%20Shock/Strut%7CFOX&T5_Var4=S100575&utm_campaign=ATS+Silverado+Vehicle+Medium&dialogtech=ppc&utm_source=google-pla&utm_medium=shopping&T5_Var2=shopping&T5_Var3=silver&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt7Gg3Jj13AIViv5kCh0r6gyEEAQYASABEgLhXvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

But yes I'm sure if there was a sale on the Falcons they'd be a viable option.

I’ve given up on Bilstein and will be going the Fox or Icon route

Do both the Icon and Fox require an aftermarket UCA or can you get by using the factory...then possibly changing it out at a later date. I know “why not change it while in there”....just thinking of viable options with these two

Anyone able to fit 285/75/r17 with these on the highest setting? Debating between 285/70 and 285/75

285/70/17 bfg k02

5100 on 3rd setting for 1.5” front lift. Rear stock block. Still have 1 - 1.5” of rake which I like for hooking up trailer or small load in back.

I have about 250 - 300 lbs of tires and bed cover in pic.

Looks good!  If you want to get rid of the squat, the Firestone Ride-Rite assist air springs I put on mine are great (3 posts up)!  The kit was less than $400 and comes with everything you need.  I had the springs in and shocks replaced in about 1.5 hours.
I have this kid installed as well and 4 years after the initial install I have never had a problem no air leaks it works great

Let me ask this, are people dropping $2-3000 in shocks because they actually utilize them to their full potential or is it purely a bragging rights thing because there is absolutely no way in hell I could ever justify dropping that kind of coin just to level a truck that sees 99% highway time. Or is it just internet hype where people believe that since they are more expensive they’ve gotta be the best and so people buy them not realizing that they are just throwing good money away on what may be a marginal increase in ride quality?

Spurshot, a member here, put King Shocks on his All Terrain.  Uses it for trekking to his hunting or fishing camp through a considerable amount of rutted out roads.  Another member from Mexico has Fox shocks and goes off the beaten path as well.  From experience some major roads south of the border can be similar to a farm to market back road needing major work here at home.

For how I drive daily and infrequent trips to ranches, Bilstein shocks and Toyo RTs fit the bill.  If I drove through those same ranch roads/trails every day I would probably have gone the King/Fox/Halo Lifts route.

YMMV

Money spent on shocks is some of the best money one can spend on a truck.  The ride and handling improvements (even on highway) a really good set of shocks can provide is quite transformative.  In my opinion, most people short themselves by being way too cheap with shocks.  They won't think twice about spending $2000 on a set of wheels and other bling items because they like the looks but don't add any actual performance, and keep their $50 factory shocks or only upgrade to a set of $100 shocks.  Completely backward IMHO.

Until a few days ago I had never heard of them.  With shocks I look for quality, and RC isn't typically a name that jumps out and inspires quality to me.  However, it's probable they're having the shocks made by a 3rd party for them, so it's certainly possible they're a good shock.  The specs look good (though I'd like to know more about their valving), I hope they're good as more choices is always better for all of us.  But personally I'd wait for more info on them (comparisons by those who have had other high quality shocks in the past).

That kind of driving I get it. I’d do the same.

Dropping $2-3000 for shocks for daily driving on the highway is an insane waste of money. You aren’t even beginning to utilize any of the benefits of those shocks. I’d bet a $100 that you could find a shock that rides as good as the Fox shocks on the highway for half the price. Dropping $2-3000 on shocks and driving on the highway is akin to putting an 80” tv in a closet. Great bragging rights but a senseless waste of money.

Spending $50K on a truck for daily driving on the highway in the first place is where the "insane waste of money" is.  If that's what you did you'd be much better off with a sedan or crossover.

How the hell do you think you know what I use my truck for?  My current shock setup (ICON front coilovers, Bilstein 5165 Rears--less than $2000 total) rides better, handles better and adds much safety when towing:

And is a fantastic improvement Offroad:

You specifically asked about highway driving, so that's the question I answered.  The shocks I chose are a fantastic improvement there as well (both digressive valved).  The biggest improvement is noticed at higher speeds on bad roads (especially when hauling cargo), where large bumps, dips, "whoops" cause a truck with the stock suspension to bounce around, feel unsettled and unsafe; the chassis still bouncing up and down several times as it recovers from a bump or a dip when it encounters the next one.  A good setup like mine not only smoothes out the ride over such stuff dramatically but keeps the chassis well planted and in control--a "solid" feeling you just can't get with cheap shocks.  Similar improvement in corners and during braking.

Again, false.  I've actually had the stock Ranchos and then Bilstein 5100's on this truck and done all the same things with it that I have with my "next level" setup so I've felt first hand the improvements at each stage.  There was a significant improvement from one stage to the next.  One worth every penny.

By your statement, it's clear you've never experienced just how good a vehicle can be with a really good set of shocks.  Otherwise you'd know the real waste of money is spending $50K on a truck and then driving it around on cheap, crappy shocks its entire life.

Jon A,

Did you stick with the stock UCA when running your icons in the front or did you replace with an aftermarket?

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
