I pulled air box and disconnected MAF to change headlight bulbs. Now getting check engine light. Will this clear by itself with time, or should I disconnect battery? Will I lose settings by doing this? Wll the truck run crappy for a while? Thanks for any help.

Dumb response but is the plug plugged in all the way? Sometimes if there is a tension issue on the connector it can cause a check engine light.

Yea, I checked and rechecked plug. Will Advanced Auto or somebody like that check and reset light. I'm sure it's because I turned ignition on to check headlights while it was still unplugged.

They can scan the code. Try to unplug the battery for 30 min or hold the 2 battery cables together for 30 seconds. Re check all the clamps and unplug the cable and plug it back in

I just started it back up before I tried to the battery unplug, and the check engine light is off. Hopefully it's off for good. Thanks for your help.

For future reference advance auto parts can reset your codes if they have the right scanner at that particular store.

Beware that on some vehicles (e,g, late 90's Nissans) you cannot clear the engine check light just by disconnecting the battery. It can only be done with a scanner. And that's always the preferable way.

I had this happen too when I was replacing a headlight a while back. Had to remove the airbox. Was scared I broke the sensor. Had my dealer check it out and said all is fine and they cleared the code.

Mine just came on too following the headlight bulb swap. Hopefully it will clear itself. Man, those sensors are sensitive. Lol

What was the consensus here? I just replaced my headlights and have the same MAF sensor error

FYI After driving about 10 to 15 miles the light reset itself.

I just replaced my headlights and the engine light came on.... everything is put back together, checked it twice. Can I wait a day to see if it turns off before taking it in?

Man thanks so much for starting at the red guys. I know it's been a long ass time but I just did the same exact thing and my check engine light is on. I also turn the key to on to check the headlights while the thing was unplugged. I'm expecting it to clear and if it doesn't after a little bit then I will take it to get cleared at AutoZone
