Future of GM Trucks

As mentioned, I'd like to see push-button start, advanced keyless entry, solid rear window that slides down like the Tundra. I think the trailer brake controller should be standard at least on higher trim levels as well. I'm sure I'll come up with more after I actually get my truck, these are just what I thought of while shopping.

Now with the 16's rolling on out I'm sure there are options that GM doesn't have that some of you want.

My question is simply what would you want GM to do differently in the future? or what options would you like to have that we don't have now?

I personally would love to see an Offroad worthy, gas guzzling, Raptor/Rebel Rival. IF not at least some better tires on these awesome trucks. SRA's just flat out don't cut it for me.

Push button start would be pretty cool and Auto up/down windows all the way around the truck would be nice.

You hit it on the head.... +1

Maybe we will see some of these options in the next redesign ?? I'm guessing it will be 2018 or 19 ? Anybody hear what year ?

I suspect it'll be around then. Nothing in the rumor mill yet but the truck makers realize they can't go a decade between updates anymore.

I agree with all of the above. Anybody catch the emergency brake cable that hangs down below the driver side rear axle going off road yet? I did, going slow and luckly no damage, just bent some. Different tires are a must. Farmers I talk with say on gravel they don't last 15,000 miles. Just off road not the best, nice in town as long as it isn't snowing!!

I would like option that leaves the backup camera on when in drive. This would be useful while driving if you have something large in bed of truck blocking view of rear view mirror. The side mirrors work in this case but the camera would also be nice.

Doesn't Ram have a bed camera in the 3rd brake light that is accessible while the vehicle is in motion?

Rear seat air vents, the advanced keyless entry like Ford, flat cargo rear floor, obviously an off-road edition/raptor fighter- it would be like printing money. The 2 worst things about GM is the lack of selectable gear sets without package changes, and the ugly freaking chrome molding and mirror caps(even on AT GMC)wtf GM that trim looks like it should be sold in an Advanced Auto.

One up high like that would be nice. I've become accustomed to camera on our motor home when driving and miss it in the truck.

Why do people like push button start? I don't get it. I dislike it actually....we have it on my wife's MDX, it is literally the definition of "technology for technology's sake" - and it can also be an inconvenience/frustration too, I don't feel the need to elaborate on that.

I agree a real "off road" edition would be nice....already have the platform, wanna trump Ford? Easy - jack the Sierra All terrain, swap out the standard 6.2 for truck-tuned blown version like the ZL1 Camaro, heavier duty diffs, leaf springs, real skid plates, and fender flares that are already available as an option. And yes, give it some nice tires.

Ram actually has, in my opinion, a more off-road worthy truck than the Raptor in their Powerwagon...its a 2500, but still...and I nearly bought one.

My last car (S4) had the push start button and it was convenient when I had it, never having to take your keys out of your pocket to get in the car or start it etc. When I first got this truck I really missed it but after a year of not having it, it is no big deal..

Can't believe u guys r so stuck on push button start,

But to each own,

Ez up windows would be nice for all 4 doors,

Cargo lamp that I can actually control, be. Nice to check on cargo while driving if needed, have a auto shutoff, 30 seconds or so,

Last and most importantly, let me but the dam truck I want I can't wrap my fingers around the fact that I can't get a all terrain/denali in summit white even if I order it!!! Hell the a/t comes in a dbl cab in summit white its half built....

O and 6.2 should at least be available in sle or sle a/t trim

Not sure about in the 1500. My 2500 Laramie had one.

My list:

Different seat cooling method. The vents in the middle of the back of the seats is ridiculous.

Vents for the rear seats not located under the seats

Auto locking tailgate.

Push button start

Flat rear floor

Overall love my 15 High Country. Part of me misses my 14 Ram 2500 Laramie I traded in but I've always been a GM guy at heart. That truck definitely ticked every feature box that imaginable plus I loved that Cummins. Put about 60k miles in about 15 months on it and decided to flip it. Really liked the High Country and wanted to get back in a GM truck. Gonna probably go the GMC route next year and spring for a Denali HD.

    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
    • Im in the same boat. Carlink adapter comes tomorrow and dev account is in process. Would you he able to send the new instructions my way also? Question, do you have to change code and republish app everytime developer updates? Thanks for your assistance, truly the only thing i cant stand about my truck is the carplay limitation

    • And Google AI says......... Yes, your truck can technically handle it, but you will be right at or near its maximum limit. A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country with a 6.5-foot bed has a maximum payload capacity of approximately 1,770 pounds.Weight RealitiesLoad weight: Half a cord of dry hardwood weighs roughly 1,100 to 1,500 pounds depending on the wood type (like oak or hickory).Payload limit: Payload includes the weight of the wood, you, any passengers, and a full tank of gas.The math: If you weigh 200 pounds and have a full tank of gas, a 1,500-pound load of wood puts you right at that 1,770-pound ceiling.Safety TipsCheck the yellow and white sticker on your driver-side door jamb for your truck's exact payload number, as high-end luxury trims with extra features have slightly lower capacities than basic trucks.Expect the rear end to sag noticeably.Drive carefully, avoid sudden turns or stops, and keep speeds low if you have to travel a distance.
