I hate the drive-thru

Does your truck sound like a sewing machine in the drive-thru, or is it just mine?

 

I think it's the air pump, doesn't really sound like a valve or lifter.

No air pump on these trucks. There is a vacuum pump. The DI high pressure pump and injectors make a good racket.

It's the high pressure injectors is all it is, you can hear it while just standing next to your truck while it's idling

Sounds like a quiet diesel at idle, I thought it was just mine until I heard a few more idling. As mentioned its the direct injection injectors/high pressure fuel pump.

"Normal"...I compared my 2014 Silvy 5.3L next to my son's 2010 Silvy 5.3L...mine goes clickity clickity and his goes hmmm...really is apparent when compared side by side.

It's just the injectors. they are louder on Direct Injected motors

Diesels are direct injection as are gas motors now.

We finally got rid of our E350 diesel van last year. Now that was an experience at the drive thru; "Sir, can you turn that off please? I can't hear you."

Nothing changing the exhaust won't fix. Drown out the engine haha.

When I had Duramax 2500, I would just turn off at drive through ordering station. I notice the tick on the 1500 but it isn't bad enough, IMHO, to worry about.

Drove durmax trucks for 10 years, and never had to shut one off in a drive thru.

 

I've noticed the dodge diesel guys always have to shut them off.
