2014+ Mirror Caps - Help Please

Hi everyone. Replacing my chrome OEM door handles and mirror caps with color matched. I acquired the Deep Ruby color matched door handles and mirror caps as well as the GM door spring tool. All went well with the handles with help from the door handle thread.

I searched all over for help with the mirror caps and found only a couple of UTube videos for older trucks. They didn't help me much.

Bottom line is, I can't get the chrome OEM covers off and need help. Every time I pry up, it sounds like I am breaking the mirror cover. And I don't want to scar the black fixture where cover attaches.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Almost all the tabs on my chrome caps broke when I removed them. I've heard this is common with the chrome ones.

So how did you get them off? Just pry it up from the back? What did you use to pry them up with?

Just started pulling from one end and kept going. Used a plastic tool to get them started but used fingers for most the work.

Thanks. I gues I'm not the only one that had this issue. I found this thread...

Well, after posting this I did indeed find a couple of threads with similar stories to mine. The GM instructions are not very favorable and mot break the tabs on their original covers. Here's the GM instructions (although doubtful they will work)...

Quote

-Firmly grasp mirror housing cover (1) and lift upwards then outwards from the mirror to release the retainers.

-Align the new chrome mirror housing cover (1) with the base of the outside mirror housing assembly, push forward until the housing cover is fully seated into the outside rearview mirror base retaining tabs.

Note: Inspect the outside rearview mirror for proper operation.

Check out this vid. Its for a 2013 but the 2014+ has the same design. I used it to remove mine

Thanks. I saw that one last night but couldn't make it work. Now that I see it again after trying, I have a new perspective. I'll give it another try tomorrow.

UPDATE: I used the same process as the video...screwdriver on front edge and work it slowly. Tabs still broke, but got it off and new one on. solved. THANKS
