My days in my 2014 Sierra are almost done

After going round and round with the corp mothership for 2 years now I have been approved for a buyback of my 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain. Waiting now for everything to be finalized and hopefully can place the order for a 2016 Sierra All Terrain to replace it.

Sad it had to come to this, I really liked this truck as it has been flawless to drive other than the stupid issue with the radio system that the vendor of the infotainment system cant seem to get sorted out and fixed. The truck would be paid off by June of 2017, so that is the only minor setback that my wife and I see at this point. She is siding with me though, why own it if GM cant fix it. So better to take the option to get into a new truck and start over than to continue to deal with this one.

So far the process has been pretty smooth, the dealer is trying to talk me into just taking one they can find and have driven into the dealership. I am preferring to order one as I don't want a bunch of options I don't want on the new truck that add into the sticker price. The only must haves are All Terrain with the All Terrain + package, 6.2L engine, NAV and the Kicker sub upgrade. I am going to transfer the rest of the mods off of my 2014 over to the new truck once it comes in.

I wish GM would offer the color matched painted door handles and mirror caps though, that will take me some time to correct while I source the parts and have them painted again.

Now to finish the waiting process and wait for the new one to get here.

Yeah, I am already in a SLT and plan on another SLT to replace it. You cant get the 6.2L / 8spd without going SLT on the trim.

Tjay, email me @ [email protected] I'd like some more details on your issues, is it all radio related and what going on, are the buying back because of that or other issues as well, I've had it with mine as well. Been in 5/6 times for radio issues, now GM is involved, but I've flirted with trying to do what u are doing I just don't know how, or if my blood pressure can handle it

TJAY thanks for all of your help and attempts. I certainly understand your position and look forward to seeing / hearing about your new ride....

Sent you an email Jamin

PM me as well. It seems my radio volume has a mind of its own sometimes. At first, the XM radio wouldn't play at all after startup. I'd have to change it to an XM channel in the 100's and then back to a music channel to get it to work. Now the volume has started doing weird things.

Thanks!

Be sure to get a SLT as it is only $800 more then the SLE and you get the 8-speed and leather that way.

you pay for leather but there aint no leather on an AT model...I've had 2, as far as I can tell the only actual leather is on the steering wheel and the front seat inserts under your ass....everything else is fake vinyl....if you could get the 6.2 in SLE trim may be better deal

One of the reasons I got a GM replacement was the Intellilink in my 14. The 16 is much improved in almost every feature including speed and function but.....

There are still issues:

1. My iPod nano-2 years old, will play once and then locks up. Have to plug into my desktop to get it working again. Works great standalone and in my 14, so assume it's the interface.

2. Have had to pair my phone 3 times in 60 days. Just turn on the vehicle and find the phone won't link, happens with no apparent cause. Turn vehicle off and still won't pair until I pair it again like it's the first time.

3. Texts are inconsistent, sometimes appear onscreen, sometimes not.

Had one other glitch but already forgot what happened. I'm not taking mine in yet, a software update is what F'd up my 14. Waiting for Android Auto to see how that works. I can play music off my phone using Bluetooth but have to select a playlist manually. Other music functions seem to work.

I think the new Intellilink is very well done and hope that they are locked on hardware so that future updates can be trusted. Past issues are likely a result of the numerous changes to hardware and software components. My software version in the 14 could not be upgraded and they were unable or unwilling to undo the update that caused conflicts.

Well the days of being able to fix things with aftermarket devices is gone, so what other option does the owner have? I wont own a vehicle that cant be repaired by the manufacture to work correctly, GM knows there are issues with the system and while they are at the mercy of the infotainment manufacture that doesn't mean I/we should have to take the gamble they will get it fixed before they can wipe their hands of the owner.

If I could have removed the stock radio and went aftermarket I would have pushed for that, that option doesn't exist and to be able to retain all of the system functions unless you want to drop $4k+ on the new Alpine audio system.

FYI, the new Sierra All Terrain X has color matched handles and such. It's not out yet, but it's supposed to be in a couple of months I believe. You might check and see if that fits into your plan.

So wouldn't it be in their best interest to just give you 4k for the Alpine system and then wipe their hands of it?

Tjay, I totally agree with you on this. I've also looked into the Alpine replacement too but then what. You lose the ambient temperature and the dash/guage/ stereo integration. Its very frustrating to jump into a new truck and the FM stereo doesn't work. It's the simplest thing in the truck. My other frustration has been with the lacking vents in the rear for A/C. I rode in the back once and was hot while the people upfront froze. I have too much invested in my truck to move on though. Just saying that I share you frustration through all of this.

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
