Ya my 14 is my first, i want a 16 simply because I want to go back to white, but ya I'm over the "new" next time I'll probably buy one a year or two old assuming I can't get out of mine within the next month or two

Totally understand your frustration but worse things have happened recently with yearly updates.

 

Anyone remember hearing about the bomb Honda had with the 12 Civics? I had a 12 Civic Si, the 13 had better interior, exterior, suspension, backup cam etc all for the same darn price and all as standard equipment.

 

Then they did it again with the 14 with even better interior, even better exterior, better wheels/tires, more horsepower, push button start, touch handle entry, touch screen radio, side lane camera etc, still at the same price and still all standard equipment. In the end I purchased a 2015 Si and loved it but constantly felt slapped in the face until I did. That 15 wasn't even the same car as the 12.

 

The irony? I move to a place where that car wasn't a sensible DD anymore and needed to get a truck. I won't argue that these headlights do reallllly suck!!! Minor upgrades through the years don't make me regret my purchase though.

Buying my 14 was not a disappointment, it is a far superior truck to my previous gmt-800 in every which way, weak headlamps and all.

Everyone hated the RAM headlights too. That said, my 2010 RAM lights were weak, but would at least give me SOME illumination to the side. This is my first experience with a projector style light, and I've got to say I'm not impressed. There are a couple of streets near me where I find the slope of the road and lack of lighting at the intersection does result in a blind turn. I can't see the side road until I'm pretty much already turned on it. Good thing I'm familiar with the intersection, but it still makes me uneasy not being able to see.

I have stock lights, they are projectors (I am guessing this issue is with the reflectors?) and mine aren't that bad. I mean yea, the 16's are WAY brighter but I can see just fine with mine. The fog lights help a lot.

I agree with you not great by any means, but not as bed as some say. Fogs def help.

The headlights on the '14/'15 are to dim a d there should have been a recall to address it, 99.9% of people don't test drive when it is dark so it is not as if this would have been noticed.

 

We are not talking like the OP is upset because he didn't get the latest/greatest headlights instead he got some crappy dim lights, this puts himself and his family at risk.

 

OP I would add a light bar and call it a learning experience.

Are they worse an HID/LED, of course, are they unbelievably horrible, not by a long shot. Sealed beam headlights now those could be bad, but they just aren't up to the LED/HID standards everyone wants these days and what they compare them to.

 

Same thing when people say the transmission puts their lives at risk, haha, ok buddy...

 

OP, they aren't sticking it to anyone. Things change and evolve, to complain about that is petty. Next year they will probably have something else you want, you going to start a thread and throw a fit then too?

Forums really need to grow up, it is like everyone is 15 with a learners permit with some of the threads people start and complain about.

This is not blown out of proportion at all, these lights are not adequate, period! I did not have hid in my 05 and they were great, drove my bosses 2013, again great, yes I realize maybe there are some growing pains with projectors, but seriously?? No vision to the sides? This is a must that's why cars in the 80's had the lights that come on when turning left or right. (Ex crown vic, even the 97 regal I had)

 

The lights on my 06 GP are road rashed, and faded, about time for new lenses, they perform way better then my new Sierra

I hear you. It was always nice having a new truck it was just the little annoying things that always made me question making that payment every month. My current truck doesn't involve a payment and as long as it starts for me when I go to drive it then I'm happy. The best part is that I can rebuild it exactly how I want it.

I went from a 2003 Explorer to a '14 Silvy and the headlights were WAY better than the Explorer. They were not perfect, bt for 80% of the time, perfectly adequate.

 

Very pleased with my '16 Silvy 2500 lights.

 

I think that saying the '14s lights are unsafe is an overblown statement. They may be inadequate to some, but not unsafe. But if someone feels that they are inadequate, an LED lightbar of some sorts would be the simplest solution.

The brightness is as good as it could get. Have a level kit on my truck so had to play with the lights alignment a little in order to not blind other drivers. Since then they have been nothing but the best. Specially when I get out of my '95 2wd tacoma.

I don't feel the same way. I feel that my 800 series truck in certain areas is superior to my 2014 and not so much in others. Though my 2002 did not have near the power as my DI 5.3 it was delivered much more smoothly and was predictable. The trans on the 2002 was much smoother as well. The mpg's are not much better either for the terrain that I drive in. The plus side for my 2014 is the power is just awesome and the 4wd seems to work smoother than it did on my 2002. The built in trailer brake and 8 inch screen are pretty darn cool as well.
