Trailer hitch recall for 14/15's with Z82

$ 29 for a new oil plug? I have a 2013 Sonic with a 1.8 liter engine (same as one used in base Cruze) and a new drain plug costs me less than $ 8. This drain plug has a star hole, so if u one uses a wrong size star bit, it is easy to damage it. What you need to worry about more though is the aluminum oil pan threads. those will give long before you strip out the steel threads on the plug itself. The 1.4 liter turbo engine has a similar plug, but with a hex head.

 

I haven't looked to see if they actually replaced the plug yet. They also wanted to replace the transmission cooler lines. I had a look at those when she got home. There is a slight sweat at the crimp connections. The car has just over 90 000kms. I think that they try to screw over women. They lost my trust since it seems that they are digging for work once you're out of warranty. $29 for a oil plug...I'd hate to see what the tranny cooler lines are worth!

I'm afraid my dealer will screw something up. They have been doing oil changes on my wife's 2012 Cruze since new. Last oil change they charged her $29 for a new oil pan plug. Since they were the only ones to touch it they wrecked it and shouldn't have charged her for it. Needless to say I am doing the maintenance now. What could they screw up with the hitch? I might be safer with the factory unit that is on there recall or not.

That's why I will take the hitch off myself. Take it to them in exchange for the new one & reinstall it myself. I've had very bad luck with dealer "techs". So unless it takes tools or knowledge I don't have I'll do it myself.

5th trip to the dealer in the last 6 weeks. On the bright side, my truck has been looking good with all the free car washes.

I've been running the vin on my 15 on gm recall website the past 2 weeks off and on and no dice. My 15 crew was built in mexico in 10/14 i believe.

 

I surely hope my hitch is OK and does not decide to blow apart when my 6,000 lb travel trailer is hitched to the back.

 

I wish we had more details as to what hitches were the problem ones. I hear lots of 15s are affected, yet mine is not on the list somehow?

 

Hopefully gm knows exactly which trucks have the problem and which don't because if my family gets hurt because mine comes apart it'll be a bad day for gm.

Hi GsBowtie, if it helps...my dealer service manager told me that this recall is VIN specific, but he originally said it affected 185,000 units and now says it affects 500,000+ units. For a recall of this size, GM must be taking this seriously. If I was you, I'd contact my dealer to check and then wait a few months to check again.

When this first came out, Silver Sled (a dealer tech) found my VIN on his resource but it wasn't showing up on the my.chevrolet.com or other public web sites. I called my dealer service manager and he could see it as well. After a week or so, my VIN showed up everywhere (even the OnStar monthly service report). I would think it would now show up everywhere, but I have also been told that the recall has been recently expanded. So, just to be sure, I would call my dealer service contact to make sure. Not all VINs are on the list, but 500,000+ are supposedly.

 

My dealer service manager told me last week that they were "special ordering" the part for mine since they used all of their first batch to replace "in stock" unit trailer hitch platforms. Now we wait some more for the part to come in...

GeorgiaBill stated in post 71, he was given a remanufactured part. Odd the way things are different. For me an appt. to verify first, then another appt. for replacement (which was done this morning). Others get it accomplished all in one appt. Then the remanufactured (assuming fixed welds) hitch. Mine was a genuine brand new hitch. No redo. What gives.

 

I'm wondering if they pick (how, who knows) certain dealers to put on new hitches, while the bad ones they take off will be "fixed" to be redistributed as remanufactured.

Are the "fixed" ones repainted or re-waxed before they are put on? My hitch is over 2 years old and has rust around the weld points which is not uncommon (Ford work truck hitch has rust in the same areas).

I would think they are blasted, then fixed and painted.

I certainly hope this is the case, but I'd be suprised if they don't. I can't see gm putting any reman hitch on that doesn't look brand new
