Ok, off topic just a little, but GM didn't copy Ford's tailgate step for bed access. The recessed step pads in the bumper work much better, less expensive, lighter than the Ford contraption. But they're so distinctive in appearance, no one can copy them.

Things that are hidden u dear gas flaps are fair game I guess. I have a '16 with the prehistoric screw-on cap and tether. Now that many of the gas stations in my area have removed the little ratchet stop for the gas dispenser, my gas cap serves that purpose completely. In this case, I think I have the better option.

The step in the corners isn't a new idea for GM anyways. I remember noticing Avalanches had them, just not as big. I honestly didn't notice those steps on Avalanches until the K2s came out. I don't think they put them on all of the body styles, but I remember it being on at least one.

Push button start comes to mind...

Not a fan of push button, I mean how hard is it to turn the key. Plus I've heard and seen problems with push button. One person on here said they had the keys on them and they were the passenger and the person drove off without the keys. I myself saw where someone didn't shut off their new Cadi ('15 or '16) and even kept it in Drive. It was in a parking garage and it just started to back up by itself and luckily it didn't hit anything. I was going to be nice and put it back in the spot but since the key wasn't close enough, all I could do was put it in park. Some feature seem nice, but no matter how much easier it may be they all still have their own problems.

I hope GM doesn't do like Ford did and added a knob to back up a trailer.

I want to give it a few years to see how this capless stuff turns out but good grief..

From the ones I've experienced, there is a flapper in the neck, but the fuel door is also an integral part of the design...the fuel door is what protects from water and dirt intrusion, the flapper in the neck is only for emissions/vapors.

Or am I missing something? I personally like the design...one less thing to fumble with in the cold.

True. I don't mind it on the 2011 F150 I work on occasionally. It works as designed.

IIRC, they were available on Avalanche in the early 2000's -- so 15 years ago.

I recall wondering then why they didn't have something similar for the pickup. Climbing into the bed with the tailgate down is much easier with the steps. (especially on an HD )

In the state of NY, it's been illegal for gas stations to have the pump handle ratchet stop installed. Many people use the gas caps to hold the handle up instead of their hands. Sounds like people will need to look for another solution to keep their hands from freezing up in the winter time.

I swear everything is illegal in this freaking state.

Don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure Cali could be worse. Or maybe I'm just thinking about vehicle mods and guns lol.

I got a $35 ticket for backing into a parking spot a few weeks sgo. Very aggravating.

I think NY is the last state to ban them. MA recently repealed their law.

What is the purpose of this legislation? Wouldn't people overfill and spill gas?

I'd go broke then. I tend to try to back into a spot so I don't have to back into the flow of traffic. I swear I drive better in reverse than forward.

It's not the auto stop. I think they're talking about how in a normal state you can flip the piece down to have it run without you having to hold it the whole time. I usually use that time to clean my windshield so it would piss me off not being able to click it to run by itself. I still keep an eye on the pump and all.

Last time I checked it was illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey and Oregon...but it's safe for some 16 year old kid to pump it for you...
