Have 2001 Sierra Z71 1500 with 5.3; having problems starting, I crank at few revolutions then turn ignition off then back on. Once I've heard pump stop It starts right up.

Not sure where to begin.

Could you be more specific about the symptoms?

Starting fresh, If you turn the key to the "on" position and wait 60 seconds, and then crank the starter - does it start normally?

If you spray some starting fluid into the air filter and then crank, does it start right away? If so - you have a fuel problem. If not, you have an electrical problem.

Its interesting that you post this, because I worked on a car today with the same symptoms.

For your rig, I would do a full tune up, and clear all the OBD2's, then go from there.

Betting it's the pump and/or the fuel pressure regulator (FPR)  VERY common on the GMT-800s.

From what I have read, its probably the fuel regulator. And yea I probably should do a full tune up. Thanks for replies
