2018 ford 5.0 rcsb

I’ve owned highly modified trucks and cars. There’s a reason my 392 Charger has an intake//exhaust//tune and I’m not planning on going farther. I’ve dumped tens of thousands of dollars trying to make none fast things fast and there are so many trade off’s it’s not even funny. I’d much rather buy something that I can just get in and drive than worry about what rpm I’m at when I’m ready to jump on it, what gear am I in when I come around a corner, whether the idle is going to settle in proper before I hit the stop light or will I need to shift into neutral so the engine won’t die. Then there’s the converters and gearing and making sure those all work with the engine. Gets tiring after a while trying to dial in a daily driver.

The coyote’s are a nasty engine and with the 10spd they are down right brutal. It’s no longer camaro vs mustang but vette vs mustang. I’m a big Chevy fan but they need to step it up in the performance market. As a performance junkie and having a 2yr old and planning on another, Chevy offers nothing that really matches anything else on the market. I can get an SRT Durango or Jeep or a plain old f150 with a tune and out run anything Chevy offers.

Performance numbers are important to anyone who has to merge in traffic. Running around on country roads I wouldn’t care as much.

Ok, but even the 5.3 has no trouble merging in traffic.

if i read the numbers right the ford is 500lbs lighter or more so it should win in a drag race. But when the time comes to do what a truck should do it may not be up to the same task as the GM. Good for ford making products people want to buy. If I feel the need to stomp some coyotes ill jump in the wife's CTS-V and do it proper....  :-) https://media.cadillac.com/media/us/en/cadillac/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2017/aug/0822-ctsv-glacier.html

And you would lose to a 2018 mustang gt with bolt -ons

cts-v runs mid-high 11’s

stang with minor bolt-ons and e85 are running high 10’s.

Something would fall off the Ford before it got very far

I have an ‘11 mustang actually, with a coyote.

The car is a complete pile of shit, but it’s the best american production v8 ever made. Small block gm is a 9/10, coyote is an 10/10

For 2018, ford gave it DI just like our motors but they also gave it secondary port injection.

Then they decided to mate it to a transmission, which according the acceleration times being put up, is nothing short of incredible.

The new 10 speeds in the fords are certainly no joke, so the 2018 f150s are a different animal. That being said, I ran a 2017 5.0 rcsb at the drag strip and I beat him by about 3 tenths. He ran a 14.79 and I ran a 14.48 it’s was about 94 Degrees out in southern Louisiana. All I had was a magnaflow in place of the factory muffler and I doubt that added much of any power (2016 5.3/3.42 rcsb) I think if gm puts the 8 speed in the new ‘19 rcsb it’ll be pretty darn close, or at least I hope so

8 speed vs 6 speed vs 10speed in our trucks does nothing for performance. They all run pretty much the same times.

you take a 6speed vs 8speed c7 corvette, which are the same transmission as our trucks, and the 8 speed will whoop it.

GM tuned our truck tranmissions in such a way that they manage to get zero performance increase from the better trans.

Good to know.  I'd like to see what a new lighter RCSB Silverado will do.

...you know there are bolt ons for GM's right  ...Just got it back from dealer today. A GM approved performance tune done by a Delphi engineer from Germany. The difference is astonishing.
