And I Thought the 2019 T1 Plastic Hood Release Lever was Cheap...

Ford has slowly been changing over to a plastic oil pan and plug on all of their engines. The 6.7 Powerstroke has had a plastic oil pan for years now.  For the last few years the 3.5EB, 2.7EB, and 5.0 Coyote all use them. They are notorious for oil leaks, so common it's shocking how many search results you'll find of guys with Ford oil pan leaks.

Im an engineer of sorts in the mold plastics industry.

Can someone explain to me the advantage of a composite plastic oil pan over

a tried and true steel or at least aluminum pan?

If the damn things are warping, leaking and failing, why continue to use that material technology?

For now we can at least praise GM for metal pans on the Silverado and Sierra!

I'm assuming weight savings is the sole reason.

I dont see any other benefit other than weight savings? Maybe heat dissipation? I could think of a million better parts to try to save weight on than an oil pan.

I cannot imagine composite plastic dissipating heat any better than aluminum.

Best guess it so save money! But are these trucks getting cheaper on the window sticker? :shakehead:

^^^This...

Consumers complain about bad gas mileage
Manufacturer starts looking at every part to save a gram and start using plastics and composites

Consumers complain trucks are cheap plastic and are no longer made from metal

I'm not defending the manufacturer and I realize some changes are due to cost cutting measures.

At the end of the day you get to pick two:

Cheap
Strong
Light

Bad ass raptor but I just can’t get over the Tacoma exhaust sound. And I’m not a hate V6 guy but the sound that comes out of he baddest truck on the market is just awful

Yeah I agree the exhaust should be tuned like a Nissan GTR. I was the same way about the exhaust until I drove one. The turbo spool sounds nice in the cab and the truck has so much power you forget about the sound. It' just fun to drive and it's properly geared with 4.10's. This truck pulls hard through the power band with little effort and it has less weight than a v8 so it also makes the truck more nimble.

A stock 2003-2007 Vipers had a 8.3 liter 505.6 cu. in. motor that produced 500 hp and 525 ft lb of torque. This truck puts out 510 ft lbs of torque. Hennessy has some old dynos he compared to older 8 liter vipers and the Raptor motor produces more power on the dyno and their lighter weight. Is the truck worth 70K,  no,  but they hold their resale value so well I opted to spend more money up front than buy a less expensive truck, mod it and get less on my resale.

Also, as a long time Chevy owner, I sold my truck last year and I waited an entire year to see what Chevy was going to release this year. Previously I test drove a 14, 15, 16, and 18 Chevy and they all had the Chevy shake and a clunky transmission. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited to see what they had coming out this year and to see if they corrected any of their problems. In the end, I just wasn't impressed with their current offering, so I jumped ship and bought a Raptor. Hopefully Chevy starts offering more gearing options, engine options and re-designs the interior. Until then I'll be driving my Ford.

I will never understand this. MAYBE, every so slightly, from a guy who is used to cars.

Even then, it's a FREAKING PICKUP TRUCK. With front end area the size of Rhode Island. What do they expect?

I'm glad I got mine when I did. He may be the last of his kind. Sure, the turbo 6s have great power. But there will never be a match for the torque delivery or the feeling of V8 torque.

I don't understand why chevy doesn't take the 4.8 v8 and put turbos on that. Everyone and there mother are taking them out of the junkyard and slapping turbo's on them.  You will have the v8 sound with insane torque and power and still can get decent gas mileage.

Have you had the Ford F150 seat belt recall taken care of yet on your Raptor?

I would like for someone to explain to me How a seatbelt can "Catch Fire"

I will take my clunky transmission over a seatbelt fire any day

seatbelt itself doesn't catch fire:

Quote

Ford said the defect involves front seat belt pretensioners that "can generate excessive sparks when they deploy."

"When sufficient sparks are present, gases exhausted inside the lower portion of the B-pillar by the pretensioners may ignite," Ford said in a statement. "If this gas ignites, components behind the B-pillar such as insulation and carpet may subsequently catch fire."

I'm just saying...………

Before calling out GM for Shaking and Clunky Transmissions, make sure your Brand of Truck is not currently involved in a recall!

Ford also had to replace many Plastic Oil Pans In the Raptors due to warping and leaking.
