Recall Title:

EPS Loss of Steering Assist

Recall Description:

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado LD, Suburban, and Tahoe vehicles; GMC Sierra LD and Yukon vehicles; Cadillac Escalade vehicles. These vehicles may experience a temporary loss of EPS assist followed by a sudden return of EPS assist, particularly during low-speed turning maneuvers. The loss and sudden return of EPS assist typically happens within a 1 second period and is caused by an electrical/software issue.

Safety Risk Description:

If EPS assist is lost and suddenly returned, the driver could have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Repair Description:

Dealers will perform a reflash of the EPS module software free of charge.

Only 2015?  My 2014 will do it at certain times.  What comes to mind first is shifting into reverse when backing a trailer and cranking the wheel.  Only to realize I have to power steering.   Then wait a second and it’s back.

Is this the same one they did on the 2014's?  I had a similar recall on mine.  Read up on it, apparently the electric assist would just go nuts and shake the wheel back and forth or lock up at speed.

Good times!

Rosco, Mine was recalled for this last year.

It is a simple dealer fix regarding software update on the electric steering.

I thought it was exclusive to 2014 models, but looks like it has reached the 15s as well.

I do not enjoy these "software" recalls. I have to take over an hour out of my day to get to the dealer to perform a 5 minute repair. Its not worth taking time off of work, and they are barely open when I'm free. Just annoying. I think this is the 4th recall I've had, at least 2 of them were knocked out in 1 visit.

I wish they would throw in a car wash or something just for me to drive over there.

Quite honestly, I am surprised GM did not just go ahead and take care of the 2015's as well.

15 owners were reporting this problem at the same time 14 owners' recalls were being issued.

Maybe it is not a faulty product or part. GM could be doing this on purpose to get you into the dealership, hoping you will feast your eyes on the new models available and pull the trigger!

Sort of like fishing.....

I hear ya. My closest dealership is also over an hour away. Be nice if they did like Tesla and send a mobile unit out for this kinda stuff  .

Looks like I'll need this as well.  At least I get a free wash and towel dry when I take the truck in for any service (which is rare, as it's only for recalls or warranty work).
