Owners Pictures of 35" Tires on Stock AT4 or Trail Boss

Recommended Posts

Hello, When I first got my 2019 AT4 there was a lot of talk of people saying they were able to fit 35" tires on their stock AT4 and a bunch of others doubting it. Is there a general consensus of what tire size you can fit on a stock AT4 while still being able to use the truck, turn the wheels and climb trails etc?

I'm a lazy bum and can't read 43 pages.

My setup

2021 AT4 1500

Stock 18" wheels

Bilstein 5100 (AT4 version) raised to the max 1.1" and Cognito UCA's (tube ones)

What size tire can I fit using the stock 18" wheels and something like a Nitto TerraGrappler G2 or BFG KO2? 33"? 34"? and will I need a wheel spacer?

I live in BFE and there's not really a shop I trust that can order the correct tires without just telling them "order this ******".

Thanks

I just ordered some 5100s for mine.  I put my 295/55R 20s on my AT4 until they wear out.  I keep reading about UCAs and can't decide which ones to go with.  I'm pretty sure I could go 34s like it is.  I talked myself out of a level kit after reading about all the issues with ball joints and CVs.

Hi,

I just got a 2021 gmc 1500 AT4 6.2 litre 4WD. Has the stock 18" wheels...which says on factory specs is a 26 offset.....and the good year fortitude ht tires size 265/65/18.

I bought a set of the Fuel Sledge wheels

gloss black/milled size 20"X9" with a +1 offset. I am installing the billstein 6100 coil/strut kit up front and going to set the circlip to #3 setting which should give me a 1.2" front level. Rear shocks will be billstein monotube 5100 series.

Im wondering what is the biggest tire I can run with this new setup? I dont want to do any trimming, cutting or rub UCA (cant get myself to hack up a new truck)......only thing id be open to is cutting that corner piece off on the front inside of bumper that sticks into the wheel well. My options on tires are nitto ridge grapplers size LT275/60R20,

LT 275/65R20, LT285/60R20, and

LT285/65R20 (which i think the diameter might be to big?)......The new TOYO open country AT3 tires....sizes LT275/60R20, LT275/65R20, LT285/60R20, and LT295/60R20... seems the toyos run a little smaller in size on there website than the ridge grapplers do?

Some of these tires are 34" tall.....will anything over a 33" or 33.5" be an issue with that new +1 offset 20"X9" wheel? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here is a few pics of the truck....I love the truck with the 6.2 litre,  but the stock wheel/tire setup just looks lost on it.

Thanks again!

Also,  when you guys are going up from the stock 18" wheel and tire to a 20" with bigger tire are you swapping out the spare tire for the same saize? The stock spare is a 17" wheel and 255/60R17 tire.......would I cause damage running a spare tire if i had to with my new wheels and tires im getting? What is the biggest size spare you can fit on the stock spare tire holder setup?

Sorry for all the newbie questions,  but have searched for hours and cant find direct answers to these questions.

Here is a few pics of the truck....I love the truck with the 6.2 litre,  but the stock wheel/tire setup just looks lost on it.

UPDATE: Think im changing the fuel wheels from a +1 offset to the +19 offset. Dont want to be throwing rocks and crap onto the rockers.....finding the GMC paint is very thin.  Plus I think with the +19 offset getting 33.5" or 34" diameter tires on will fit without rubbing or trimming......thoughts??

Thanks again!

I’m hoping the same. I have a 21’ AT4 with stock suspension and just purchased 20x9 +18 Method NV305 with 285/60/20 Ridge Grapplers. Not sure if they will fit but decided to push the envelope. If they don’t fit I’ll just leave them in my garage until I lift (kind of swaying against a level unfortunately) Did you get your new setup yet?

Just got the new setup installed and I really like the way it came out.

Went with the Fuel Sledge 20" X 9" +1 offset gloss black/milled wheel and the Toyo open country AT3 285/60R20 tire. Put the bilstein front coil/strut kit up front which leveled the truck off almost perfect and the bilstein rear shocks which took away that back end bounce feeling over bumps. No trimming at all needed, I get a very slight rub at full turn in reverse on the front splash guard and just barely.....but these are the bigger GMC splash guards. Im going to try to swap the front splash guards back out with the ones that came with the truck to see if it helps, if not I might try those gatorguard mud flaps. Also this setup cleared the A-arm with plenty of clearance.  I have about 3/4" to 1" of poke which is perfect and not to aggressive.

Also swapped out the stock CAI for a Rotofab CAI....excellent quality an fit. I swapped out the chrome exhaust bezels to a set of gloss black powder coated ones from "official powder coat". They also will buy back your stock ones for $50 so it brought the price down to $150 for the set.

I definitely feel like with the bilstein front strut/coil kit which brings it up 1.2" in the front on the #3 circlip setting that a 285/60R20 tire is the max you could do without getting into trimming or having major rubbing. I am very impressed with the toyo open country AT3 tires....they are meaty for an all terrain tire and very quiet. I found the sweet spot is 38 PSI on my truck to run.....toyo recomend 40 to 42 but they rode stiffer at 42.

Here are a few picures of the outcome.

Filled out the wheelwells a little today. Stock tires were GY Wrangler Territory 265/60/20, new rubbers are GY Wrangler Ultraterrain (10 ply) 285/65/20. 34.8" tall... pretty close to 35's.  I had to do a little minor surgery only on the passenger side mud flap.  Driver's side cleared by 1/4".   Just had to trim a little off the passenger side with a utility knife. Pretty easy.

Stock wheels, no level, no spacers. AT4 stock suspension.

Balanced out perfectly. Discount tire... highly recommended. See before/after pic.

After reading all of the posts on this thread I decided to try the 295/70/18 on stock wheels on my 2020 rst with the 2 inch Chevy trailboss lift. Tires fit with no rubbing or clearance issues! Thanks for the help guys!

What are we looking at here? Is it just a weird angle and you're in a ditch?

One thing to remember is the Nitto Ridge Grappler in 35x12.50 runs a bit smaller than other 35s, so makes sense he could fit those.  I had those tires on my 17' Silverado lifted and later changed to 35x12.50 Toyo MTs and man the tires looked huge compared to the Nitto Ridge, in a good way of course but I could see if someone tried running the Toyo MTs which run more true to size they might rub vs the nittos.

Part of me wants to goto Discount Tire and see if they’ll mount a 295/65/20 and a 35x12.50/20 on my truck and let me check clearance of both so I can decide which set to go with lol. I dont NEED the extra inch of width but I do like having the height over the stock 265/65/20 tires.
