Sticker was 58k - Sierra SLT, Preferred Plus, X31, Plastic Floor Mats - after incentives, discounts, etc... 42k...    I see the same dealer now has 1 for ~1k less than we paid...  I should go get a refund [emoji4]

Hey. Where did you buy yours?
Here in Arkansas the best deal I could find was $44k for a SLT with the same packages.

I picked up a SLT w/ X31 and Premium Plus package yesterday. MSRP of $58,320 for $44,998 and got what I felt was a very good price on my trade. Purchased in Decatur, Texas.

I went to one dealership yesterday and $42k was the best he said they would do on the few RST models I looked at with MSRPs of $52k.  So I walked and told him I was going elsewhere this weekend.

Good for you. I got my $55K MSRP RST for $43K back in March. So they should be doing a few $K better for you on that truck at this time of year, IMO.

Seems to me from the these last posts that 20% is very realistic. And more if one puts forth a little effort.   Great deals guys!

One other thing that can help many times... call ahead and make an appointment and tell them what you are looking for.  It gives the impression that you are a serious buyer, not just a looker.  It can make any negotiation go smoother.   I emailed or chatted ahead of time and set up appointments to meet for my last 3 vehicles.  Still had to stand my ground a little, but the process was far more enjoyable.

Where in Arkansas are you? My wife's family is still there.

We are in northern California around Sacramento. I got the best deal going 30 miles away...  it was worth the drive to save a couple grand...

Alright so looking for some advice here, I have received a few new offers today.  Both are pretty similar MSRP trucks at right around $52k, they are offering me between $43-44k OTD.  So if I am expecting 20-25% off of the $52 im around $38k are all the bullshit fees + Tax and tags really around $5k?  I am in Virginia and the sales tax is 7% which I am estimating right around $3k for 38-39k.

Are you trading anything in? If not, you're paying 7% on the sales price. So, as you calculated, a $38K sales prices = nearly $3K in taxes alone. The other fees added together should not be more than $800 or so.

Forget about the OTD price and just pound them on the final sales price. Your additional TTL is non-negotiable, so just hold them to the sales # that works for you.

FYI, $38K for a $52K MSRP truck is a very good deal, IMO.

No Im not trading in, I just sold my car so I plan on putting around $8k down.  I cannot get any of them to give a firm price, every answer is our online price is the best price we can do. I have told them I am about $2k from a deal but nobody wants to come down. I don't think $40-41k OTD is unreasonable for a $51-52k truck but maybe I am crazy.  I just dont want to move down to the LT model.

After going into three dealerships and not getting more than $500 off their "internet" price in person, I made contact with the internet sales of about12 dealers.  I specified what I was looking for, advised I had driven the model truck I am interested in a couple of times, was ready to purchase but was seeking more serious offers than their internet prices.  What I am getting is their same old internet prices, or come in for a test drive when I told them I did not need to test drive again, but nothing really serious.  Most act like they didn't even read the email.  Only one actually gave me a decent quote with a breakdown of the price.  He acknowledged it was not one of the colors I wanted, but said he wanted to extend an offer.  I'm actually reconsidering the color, because the guy is interested in playing ball.  It's like the dealers have almost turned into no-haggle price dealers with their 10% off on a 2019.   I bought a car three years ago by negotiating with two cars dealers back and forth for a few days and got the price I was looking for.  You know - old school - where there is active back and forth negotiating while sitting at the dealer.

What kind of prices are you guys paying for your AT4s? I’m not seeing huge discounts, only around 10-15% off, but I’d love 20% off. I know demand is high for these things though.

Also, when do you think the 2020s will be seeing some price drops? I know they’re brand new, but I’ve only seen $5k off on them. I heard the suspension had been retuned slightly and, of course, the adaptive cruise control is supposed to be in them.

We are in Conway. It's Central Arkansas area.

The best price I found was with Everett, which is Bryant, around 50 miles from here. They are offering 1~2k less than the local GMC here. So I would drive to save it.
But I believe they will drop a little more, I will wait until the end of the year to see what happens.

Taxes and fees are not part of negotiating the price for the vehicle.  Taxes and registration are going to happen with any vehicle.  Keep these things separate when negotiating the actual cost of the vehicle itself.  And it is legitimate and reasonable for the dealer to require a fee to file all the paperwork and such with the government.  There is no legitimate reason for the dealer to tack on any other fees.  The OEM already compensates the dealer for "dealer prep" and the transport fees are included in the MSRP sticker.

If a vehicle has an MSRP of $52K, I would never pay more than 80% or $41,600 for it. and try for even less.  Taxes, registration, even the trade in (if any) come later in any deal.  Keep all parts of the deal separate so that you don't get snowed with hidden fees and other rot a dealer might try to play games with.  You are using numbers based on 75% of MSRP which might be a little unrealistic.  $43K out the door is probably realistic if one is getting the vehicle at 80% of MSRP which is fair.  That would mean taxes, title/registration, fees, etc are only about $1400 which also is reasonable on top of $41,600 price of vehicle (80% of $52K MSRP).

If the dealer is saying the OTD price is $43K for a vehicle with an MSRP of $52K, then one should consider jumping on it.  OTD means everything.... purchase price, taxes, fees, registration, everything.  Hold them to it if they are saying the price is OTD.  Else what they quoted is not OTD, and call them a liar if they try any funny slight of hand stuff.  They said the price was out the door, which means the price one would write a check for and drive off the lot.

Yeah, the demand in an area can skew the process.  If I was a dealer and knew I could always get higher prices, I would not be in the mood to negotiate much off.  That is why there are over 5000 dealerships in the country one can buy from.  Call, email, text various dealers and negotiate.  My 2500, I bought from a dealer about 60 miles away.  I passed by 7 GM dealerships since they wouldn't step up to the plate and be realistic.  One vehicle, I bought it from a dealer that would play fair, the vehicle I wanted was at another dealer and I had this dealer bring it in from the other dealer and make the sale.  No one is tied to a chair and forced to deal with any one dealer for any one vehicle.
