Man Down!!!

Hey fellas, I purchased a 09 Yukon Denali. Had it for 160000 miles in Feb 2017. Good truck. However, I’ve been putting the wrong gas. Gave me a tick. Took it to a performance shop to get an opinion. He suggested a rebuild since the motor was detonated. I was game. I then asked about getting a little more power. He suggested a slightly bigger cam. I was game. I paid him. He swapped my motor and gave it back. The piston cracked and got stuck in the block damaging the heads and block . I took it to texon motors to get it evaluated and they suggested we call it junk. I was game. So now I am looking for a 6.2. L 9 H . My question is . Would I waste money  buying a used motor and getting it rebuilt vs buying a Reman. I’m just looking for input to make a good decision before I get stuck again.

Did you buy it new? Done regular service to the transmission? Front end in good shape? Drive a lot? How much longer are you going to keep it? Doing the install yourself? A reman is a rebuild. Depending on those answers the choice can be made. You may want to check at your local dealer. Sometimes new is close in cost to a rebuild.

Why go pretty much the same route for another engine?

Get a GM Good Wrench engine.

And as Karnut said, is this Yukon worth it?

X2 on buying a new GM factory motor. Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time and money on anything 09 unless it’s more of a sentimental object which your case it’s not. Junk it, go buy yourself a much newer model or even a used Escalade with very low miles and making sure it’s got extended warranty and then you’re done.

Spending more than the vehicle is worth to repair it is ridiculous!
