I assume LD stands for "light duty". As for why the carryover, my assumption is that it's two primary reasons. #1 so they can keep pumping out trucks before they change over the second factory as they tend to flood the market prior to a change in order to have enough trucks for demand. #2 is to offer some of the lower trim better priced trucks. When a new generation comes out you tend to see the higher spec trucks on the market with less incentive, so they still want to have some trucks with steep discounts and lesser options. Not everyone wants to spend the cash on the high country with every single option.

This is how you protect your sales numbers on 2019 new body style that is not selling as well as they would like.  You keep running the old model into the next year. To catch sales from people like me who bought a 2018 because I didn't like the new ones.  My dealer in Canada has them to all Double Cabs they also have 2019 Sierra's Limited double cabs.

That's exactly what I did.

I was kind of surprised how many K2s I was still seeing on dealer lots.  I was wondering if they were having a hard time clearing out the 2018 models.  But, on closer look, I noticed they had actually brought in quite a few 2019 K2s.  For some reason, I did not expect dealers to stock that many of them.

@MikeNH Surprised you went to quirk rather than banks. I find the staff, options and pricing at banks is worlds better than quirk personally. That said I'm right down the road from there so I tend to use that dealer for basic service stuff. GMC side seems less intense than the chevy side somehow.

Banks wouldn’t give me what I wanted on trade in. They lost a sale over $1000. Quirk was okay to deal with. A bit slow but whatever. Hopefully I won’t do it again for 4-5 years.

Interesting. I had exactly the opposite experience. The peeps at Quirk had done the whole pressure tactic from the start, wouldn't give me straight info on trade in, and kept bouncing around on price of what they could do. It felt like such shady sales that I went to Banks and was much happier. Straight info on trade that was better than the hmm and haw I got at Quirk.

Hopefully your experience there was better than mine. If anyone from Quirk is happening to read this, please change your practice of trying to get all my info before we look at anything and scatter your sales force. Nothing puts a bad taste in my mouth like walking past the front desk and wading through a sea of sales guys only to sit down and try and get my current sales guy to try and get all my info and monthly payment plan before even looking at a truck. Maybe I'm in the minority but I know what my financial state is like and know what I want. It's your job to show me the options and tell me why chevy is better than the competition. /rant

I actually read Fiat has been doing this with the Ram as well.  They carry over the old model with huge discounts.  GM is basically copying them.

It must be working Ram and GM are cutting into Fords F150 sales.

However they both need to step back and understand people are swarming in on the lower price trucks.

X2 I was getting out of my Ford Ranger and was looking at Colorado’s with a brake controller. Wanted a LT gasser and Quirk told me they had 30 in inventory. Got there and they had the diesel and ZR2 and they wanted $38k for both; no LT’s. I asked if they had any Silverados with a brake controller around that price and they said no. Pressure tactics were used and I complained about it and the bait n switch. Went down the street to Copeland and got a LT Silverado  with a brake controller for cheaper.

I was looking at Tacoma or Silverado (I know - completely different, but I don't haul so I was considering the smaller truck). Obviously ended up with the Silverado because I got into it for the same price as a Tacoma and I like the bigger truck in case I ever do want it. I will say the Toyota dealer experience was the best I have ever had though - I kind of wish that sales guy worked at Chevy because I just wanted to give him a sale. He did not talk down or treat me differently because I am young, and just took me on a test drive. Ran numbers of what that truck would cost without taking a single piece of my information. Lowest pressure ever! I did not have to give my phone # or email to get him to talk to me!

Now I went to 2 chevy dealers -- the first treated me like a kid because of my age and didn't believe me when I said I would be financing and making the payments myself. They kept asking if my dad would be coming in to finalize payment. Then they took me out in a double cab work truck and told me their price for that was $41,xxx. Went to another chevy dealer and I got in a CC Std Box 4wd LT All Star for $36,xxx. The first chevy dealer kept emailing me to ask if they had offended me, LOL.

Nice looking truck! I literally had to do a double take on Monday because I saw one that had LD on the tailgate. First time I had seen that and didn't know what it was until this thread.

Huh? Is that even possible? Some dealer doesn’t need to know my moms maiden name before I even get in the front door? Sh!t next your going to tell me the tooth fairy is real!

Next time show up on the lot in a Vette. Back in 99 one of the local dealers had a new Firehawk on the lot I could stand out there next to it for an hour and no one would come out. Took my buddies Vette and before we even pulled to a stop 4 salesmen where literally running to the door to see who got to come out and talk to us. After we got done looking at it I said well I have to drive it to buy it. He said well nobodies ever taken it off the lot and I don’t think we can but I’ll go ask my manager. Five minutes later he came out with the key and said let’s go he rode shot gun every time we got a straight stretch of road he’d say well let’s see what this thing will do the rest of the time he wanted to know if I was trading in the Vette. Yeah sure buddy...

Yeah I know - it was crazy to not give my info. Maybe next time I’m shopping for a vehicle I’ll go to enterprise and rent an exotic for the day ?

Ugh, I know the feeling of salespeople not taking you seriously.

When my wife and I got married 3 years ago, she was 24, and I was 28.  Since then, we have shopped and bought 2 vehicles, and a travel trailer.  We definitely had a few run-ins with salesmen who did not seem interested in selling us anything.  With every year that passes, it seems to get a bit better, but there are still plenty of bad salesmen out there....

GM isn’t “copying” anyone. They’ve done this for ages. They built the 800-series alongside the 900s. Sold both versions of the Impala in 2014-2015. Same for the Malibu in like 2004 or 2005.

Just curious but why not just buy one off the lot? What special equipment are you getting that one on the lot wouldn't have? I'm seeing 2019's at my dealer with up to $14,000 off. Most have at least $10,000 off. They have 158 2019's on the lot now. A couple months ago they only had 30 .

Every truck I've ordered I never got that great of a deal on. Not even close to $10,000 off.
