My old F-150 had only the regular USB plugs so I used the slow-charging USB to USB-C cables. Since the charge was so slow, I had a QC 3.0 adapter plugged in the cigarette lighter if I wanted to charge it up quickly but would not be able to use Android Auto.

 

When I saw that my new Silverado has USB-C plugs, I figured it was time to catch up and bought at least ten USB-C to USB-C cables. I also replaced all the USB plugs at home to USB-C. It's 2019, ya know?

 

Now, I can quickly charge my phone with Silverado's USB-C plugs and be on Android Auto at the same time. The regular USB now charges my LED flashlight. I'm glad Chevrolet didn't make it all USB-C, I think the regular USB has a good fifteen more years to go before becoming obsolete.

 

The regular USB can only go up to 2 or 3 watts, while USB-C can deliver up to 100 watts. My phone does up to 36 watts and I'm showing fast charging on my phone which is nice! No more deciding between two cables.

 

If you're not sure why there's USB-C in your truck, now you have your answer. You may need to buy a USB-C to USB-C cable to fully benefit from it.

What happens if you're plugged into usb-c and place it on the wireless charger at the same time?

 

Does Android Auto work with the wireless charger?

 

Still debating which packages to get.

I'm not getting fast charging with the truck's USB C port. While C allows for 100w, I guarantee the chargers in our trucks are a fraction of that.

It won't blow up or anything, but it won't charge any faster.   

 

No, our trucks don't have wireless Android auto.  As far as I know that is only available in aftermarket stereos currently.

Yes, there's a wireless charger option that goes in the glove box but it won't be hooked up to Android Auto. Don't think you can do it wirelessly as of now.

I just tested it again, my phone does indicate "fast charging" but I didn't measure it.

Not sure what's the point of wireless charging if it's slow and can't be used for Android auto. When I did a test drive, it said charging slowly, and didn't think to test AA. Now thinking/wishing it wasn't included with Conv Pkg 2 on the LTZ.

The wireless charging does seem very slow on my truck with my iPhone X. Lucky to get a few percent on a short trip...but if nothing else it’s a convenient place to put the phone and easily see it. I don’t care for the layout of the console without the charging pad. If I desperately need a lot of juice I hook it up to my cable in the console anyhow.

Agreed, none of the wireless chargings I've seen are useful. It's almost always phone-specific, not standardized.

As for USB-C, it seems to work well with my phone. It's a Huawei P20 Pro.

When I test drove a couple trucks the last few days, I liked being able to put my phone on landscape mode on the console without the wireless charger in the little trough. Seemed like it sat up at a better angle than one the wireless console. But I want the camera trailer package, so have to get the wireless. Doh.

Ah, I always put mine vertical so I guess that’s why it works out for me. You really want CPII anyway, if only for the Bose. The standard stereo is insulting for the price of the truck.

Bose is quite good! Worth it.

 

Phone has to be less than 80 percent for fast charge to kick in.

For some reason, fast charging is no longer working. Checked it with a fast charge adapter and it still didn't. Now I'm sure it's the cheap cables I bought. Shouldn't have ordered from Aliexpress.

Pulled trigger today, got CP2, Bose sounds good ??

Is it still working? My 19 silverado sometimes launches android auto and superfast charging when connected to usb-c but most of the time it shows slow charging and won't launch android auto. I also tried 3 different cables as well

This is my experience also. The Samsung cable works perfectly in the Mazda and at home, but in the truck I can either charge slowly, or use android auto (not my choice). Some cables don't work at all.

      No I didn’t watch a video of a person who analyzes oil for a living explain general oil usage. For clarity I did ask my brothers one who runs our equipment business. The other who runs our old ROW business about oil usage. Nothing has changed since I retired. Their personal vehicles or work vehicles use no oil. Not enough to see on the oil checking device. Then I pondered. I like to ponder. In this extended oil changing world with oil change countdowns or lights. If engines used say a qt every 2500 miles or up to even 4000 miles. With oil changes reaching as high as 15000 miles. Normal for most people is eight to ten. Vehicles should potentially be seizing up all over the place. Especially in hilly terrain. Just how many people actually check their oil? Maybe 10 percent. Those are the people that probably change their oil early. I like to research used car listings. I have five favorite dealers I check. They all list carfax with their listing. It’s rare to see vehicles with anything but extended oil changes. Transmission service, forget about it. I’ve seen Honda and Toyota certified vehicles up to 100K miles and ten years old. With nothing but normal maintenance. Isn’t nice we all have different experiences and believe our way is the best. You certainly get backup for whatever you believe. Life would be boring otherwise.

      Interesting rumor. Dealers near me have been tight-lipped so far, but if this reveal actually happens next week, I'm really hoping they finally give the HD a proper interior overhaul. The competition has been eating their lunch in the cabin department for a while now.

      There are a few good takeaways in that video that pertain to this thread, certainly the possibility of the oil control rings having buildup, the fuel injectors and how clean or not that they are ending up affecting the pistons rings carbon buildup, and the fact that its normal up to a point for a given engine to use some oil, and that the oil quality that is being utilized is part of that ring clogging up issue as well.   I was talking with a neighbor yesterday who has a baby LZ0 duramax and he had bought it slightly used but it does consume some oil and he has switched over to 5W-30 Euro spec oil and in this case that never made a difference in consumption over the factory 0W-20 recommendation. He finds it uses a quart in about 3500 miles and as he goes a ways over that distance he adds oil to full and goes another 1000 miles or so and then changes oil and is typically at 40% or so left on the oil monitor at that point with his use case of quite a lot of highway miles and more limited in short run use. I don't know what other LZ0 engines are doing for oil consumption but that is what his is doing.

      Ok well I guess Lake disagrees with me on a few points. I call oil consumption pretty basic. Rudimentary. He calls it "really complicated." I think 1qt consumed in 3k miles is a lot. He says that's normal. In 22 minutes, he'll use his natural talent to explain oil consumption to anyone watching this video. He covers everything from obvious engine damage to how normally functioning healthy engines consume oil by design. Lake explicitly states how you drive will impact oil consumption.   Shut up and watch:
