Can we talk about the omission of Adaptive Cruise Control

So I mentioned this in one of the 2020 HD threads already, but am I the only one that's very disappointed that Adaptive Cruise isn't an option on the new trucks? All the hardware is there, even following distance indicator, but GM didn't include full adaptive cruise control, or better yet, GM's Super Cruise?

I am currently in a 2018 F150, after having my 2016 F150 bought back, and my 18 having many of the same issues, and the need to move on from half tons for my travel trailer, I am ready to switch over to Chevy, but I am really disappointed, as I swore my next truck was going to have this feature.

I know in the Silverado 1500, it wasn't available for 2019, but will be for 2020, I'm hoping the HD will have it for 2021.

well.. look on the bright side.. we got along just fine without adaptive cruise control over the years.. why add it now?

The adaptive cruise control was the WORST feature in the car I rented in Germany, and could NOT turn the damn thing off!

There's no speed limit so I would travel at 80 to 90 mph, trucks cannot go above 60 mph so I would have to watch the left lane for a gap so I could jump in and pass the truck. Sometimes, the cruise control would act up and slam the brakes whenever I got too close to the truck in front of me, but the car would not know I already intended to move to the left lane. And then with it going slower, I'd mess up the traffic rhythm on the left lane and watch all the angry glares while moving back to the right lane, still behind the truck.

I do NOT want it and will NOT consider a car with that bullshit!

adaptive cruise control, one more gimmick that creates less attention while driving. You want an auto-pilot next? Tesla's coming out with a truck, just wait and buy their's

It's kind of typical for GM, they do weird stuff like this. On the K2s you couldn't get push button start or rear air vents even in the top trims. On the SUVs it's a super rare feature to actually find equipped on dealer lots, despite being standard in a $16k Toyota Corolla. Yes, some of the "Old man yells at cloud" set don't want it, but guess what it's not 1975 anymore. Truck capabilities are all so high and evenly matched more and more people are shopping based on features rather than numbers, which is why the new Ram is doing so well.

My wife's Benz has adaptive cruise coupled with other safety features and these features together are the bees knees. These features actually saved her once when she was towing our boat and a van had a blow out just in front and to the right of her. Her ML 400's brakes came on slowed her down and pushed her to the side and she avoided a collision by inches before she even realized the car in front was crossing right into her. It is also awesome in a traffic jam or severe congestion. Adaptive cruise is one feature I would for sure like on my next truck if they could get it right when towing heavy.

If anything like my Traverse Premier with auto braking LKA, windshield recognition camera, front and rear cameras, mirror cameras, ultrasonic sensors, etc and all the other safety detection crap, it does not have all the sensors.....requires an additional radar sensor in the grille to measure exact distance.

Had it in my Malibu and kept it turned off.......everytime someone cuts in front it slows down to keep distance or sets off the HUD warning LEDs......keep it turned off, a real pain in the a$$.

I'll remember that if I'm ever in the market for a Benz, but GM's radar operated auto cruise isn't coupled to to high speed automatic braking or electric steering for collision avoidance like the LKA system.....so all it would do in GM's isolated system is sudden braking assist and possibly getting you smashed in the rear by a tailgaiter.....seems with the much, much better Benz system, if traveling in the center lane of a multi lane highway and the system is not also coupled to side detection cameras sets you up for a multi vehicle collision. Unfortunately none of these systems come with a luck sensor because lacking luck these systems can save your a$$ in some situations or screw it in others.

GM and I go a long way back until recently. I was ready to go see a dealer about ordering until I found out the adaptive cruise is missing from the new HD's. I am taking a step back to think it through. My wife does not want to have a vehicle without it and I'm not sure I do either. We just completed a 1600 mile trip with our Ford pulling our 16K plus pound fifth wheel and I used it the entire trip. When the brakes are applied while using the cruise the system also applies the trailer brakes. With all the road construction I just let the adaptive do its thing and keep me a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of me. If I am coming up behind someone who is going slower I just get in the left lane as soon as I can. I have grown to appreciate this feature probably more than any other. I moved to the Ford because of all the towing and safety features and thought this is the one item GM would include. Yes, I can drive without any of that stuff but I am getting older and a little tech help is appreciated.

I’m a driver not a rider. Driving is an art to me. Otherwise use Uber. Anti lock brakes, nothing else. I drove a car with all that. You still had to keep your hands on the wheel. I was uncomfortable the whole time. Just when I was about to pass it would slow down. No thanks.

GM needs to make this an option. For the old schoolers who don’t want it, they don’t have to order it then. For the rest of us, make it available and have it available and ready on the first release of the new models, not 6 months later on the 1/2 model year. They did this to me on my 15 3500 with the nicer mirrors. Those should have been ready when the truck was debuted. This discussion actually makes me want to hold off And wait until they update the new trucks in 6 months.
