Test fitted a 305 55 20 Toyo AT at local tire shop and it fit the stock 20" wheel (no spacer, no mods). It was close to upper control arm.

My preference is a Nitto Terra Grappler  G2. Is anyone running a 305 on a 20?

I pay a restock fee if I order them and they don't fit. Is it worth the gamble?

I think you would need to do a 305x50x20 instead of a 55. A 305 will barely fit on a 9 inch rim needs to be on a 10 inch rim. I had 305’s on an old Denali I had but 10”rims.

I think you mean a 295 since that’s the width portion of the tire. The 55 is the side wall. I may be wrong but here’s my math...

305/25.4 = 12.00 wide

305 x .55 = 167.55 mm for sidewall.

167.55/25.4 = 6.6” of side wall height

6.6” x 2 + 20” (rim size) = 33.2” overall height

Forum member BlackLS had 305/55/20 on aftermarket wheels with no rubbing.  Looked really good in my opinion.  That’s what I am going to do.

No I was talking about tire height, unfortunately you can’t figure tire height with math the manufacturers are not consistent. The Nitto Ridge Grappler will work with a 55 it’s 33.25 but it’s still to wide for a 9 inch rim. I am looking at Cooper tires even in a 50 it’s to tall about 34.5 . I would never put a 305 on a 9inch rim. There are some companies that sell 35 inch tires that are actually less than 34 inches tall. Discount Tire online lists tire heights of each tire so check the specific tire you want to use. Look at weight too heavy tires kill gas millage .

Thanks McCoy. I did have a 1.5" Motofab level with these wheels. No rubbing or trimming.

A 305 is fine on a 9” wheel

According to who? What tire, no two brands of tires are the same. You end up with a tire that looks like a fat chic in to tight jeans,  I asked the guy at Discount Tire they won’t even mount a 305 on a 9 inch rim but I’m sure someone will.

Thanks for the Discount Tire tip. That is where I'm buying from. According to their site the 305 Terra Grappler will work on a 8 -11 inch rim. My biggest concern is clearance from the upper control arm. I think diameter wise i should be ok.

Mountain Boy which Discount you go to? Just like they stated above 305 will work on 8” to 11” wheels that per any fitment guide including Discounts.  Heck 2019 Ford Raptor comes stock with a 315 on a 8.5”.

I have 305/55/20 Ridge Grapplers mounted on 20x9 20mm on my HC with the 2" GM lift, and no issues at all.

Love it! I have been unable to find a picture of a 305 55 20 on the AT4 stock 20 inch wheel. Would love to see that.
