Checking out the new Silverado - why did you chose Chevy?

I'm checking out pickups, and finally going to get in some test drives.  I'm starting with the Chevy, and will probably cross-shop Ford.  I looked at the Tundra on paper, but just can't get past the fact that it's a lot more than the domestics with no extra features, worse infotainment, and worse fuel economy.  The reliability of Toyota is about the only reason I'd even consider.

Any reasons y'all haven't loved your Silverado?  I've had a couple Fords, they are okay but the current F150 interior looks meh, and I'm not interested in a turbo v6.  I'm not even looking at the disaster of the Ram, heard/read nothing but horror stories.

I'm not brand loyal so just trying to get some feedback on why people chose the Chevy.  And yes, I know I'm on a GM site :-)

Performance, economy, very “new” and bold appearance and of course loyalty/ familiarity with the brand coming from a 2016 GM and several before that.

F150 has been around since 2015 with minimal changes. I actually like them just fine, but at this point they are sort of boring, and not really compelling to me.

Tundra is a serious dinosaur and also not compelling.

Briefly looked at Ram but couldn’t bring myself to trust FCA, and so far I was right not to.

Those are my reasons. Be prepared for a hundred others...

Thanks, and I'm prepared.  Your reasons match pretty closely with mine.  I've actually rented two Chevy (Camaro V6, and Impala) in LT trim this year, and was pretty happy with both of them.  The infotainment was super easy to use.  I sit in the car a lot so that's important to me.

I've twice almost pulled the trigger on an FCA product, and just couldn't do it.  I WANT to like their products, but when the 2019 Ram has almost 40 complaints on carcomplaints.com, and has a dozen recalls (a couple major, the rest only affecting limited numbers of vehicles)...I just can't.

Fords are good trucks, but when I shopped, the Fords were way too expensive.  Like $10k more for a similarly equipped truck.  Also, I'm not into the turbo thing.  Everything I've heard and read says that the gas mileage is horrible if you use the boost, nowhere close to what the sticker says.  They still have the V8, but they seem to be really pushing the ecoboost.

I REALLY like the Ram trucks, and I drove them for years, until the last one I had (a 2014) broke down constantly.  Going to be awhile before I trust them again.  I was never all that happy with my 2017 Silverado after coming off a Ram, other than the reliability.  Power always felt really sluggish coming from a Hemi.  But the 2019 is a really nice truck to drive, I like it easily as much as my last Ram.

If you want a really reliable truck, get a Tundra.  But there is no other reason to get the Tundra.

Town only has GM and Ford dealers.  The Ford dealer bumbles fixes while stealing things out of people's vehicles.  There were only 2 GM 1500 4x4 crew cabs on the lot, and the Chevy had more options than the GMC.

I didn't, I chose GMC. :troll:

I liked the way the truck looked and I liked the way it drove. I don't mind the F-150, I've had several and for the most part, they were good trucks.  If you want an F-150, I'd wait a year since the new model is right around the corner. The Tundra is probably the most reliable truck out there because it's ancient. Ram, no thanks.

That said, the truck isn't my daily, a 2018 Accord is. My wife and I have driven Hondas for years and love them. If they made a full-size truck, I'd probably have one. Until then, it will be a mixture of GM and Ford for me.

I didn't choose my Silverado, my Silverado chose me!

That being said, I had 2012 and 2016 F-150 Supercrew 4x4's with V8. My 2016 had center console and 302A.

As for taking the Silverado over the F-150, I have mixed feelings. Plus: interior is better compared to F-150, gas mileage is vastly superior although with little loss in power, and the $10k incentive made it easier. Ford didn't offer any that month and Ram had $16k. I looked up the 2012 full-sized pick-up trucks and Dodge was $8k cheaper than the others. Although F-150 had softer and bouncier suspension, Silverado has really tricky suspension and I've fishtailed a few times. K2 owners and now T1 owners are reporting that. My first one occurred within 300 miles from new and I was really pissed over it, shouldn't happen on a straight road but there was an inch or two of dried dirt caked on top of it.

F-150 had no electronic gremlins. The 6-speed in the F-150 shifted smoothly compared to the 8-speed in my Silverado. Owners with 10-speed are reporting it to be much better than the 8-speed. I should have waited. Or drive a little more and the jerkiness in my 8-speed will eventually smooth out, as reported by others. I don't drive much, I drive mostly on dirt roads. I found a way to prevent it from fishtailing: do not go 33 mph. I either go 25 or 40. It's strange but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

If it weren't for the fishtailing, I could have lived with the electronic gremlins and would have bought another Silverado. If you don't drive on dirt roads almost daily, Silverado would be ideal.

I just love everything about the new 2019 Silverado. Honestly. It looks and drives so darn good! I came from a 2007 Classic Silverado. Put 268,000 miles, so I know they are dependable.

Bottom line, I'm just a Silverado man. Especially this newest generation.

Be careful a lot of people are very upset they removed the sunglasses holder. I have had a Ford loved it to be honest just like my GMC better, 5 in a row GMC. Don’t just check Chevy, GM has a big push this year to make the Chevy and GMC different.

Count me in on this.  'Bout to start a change.org petition.

Really love my 2019, except for all the nickel and dime crap that GM took away.  Just on another thread about wheelwell liners.  Such an inexpensive part for them to add, should really be included on LT and up, at least with the all star package.  Also seat belt shoulder adjust - every car I've owned since my '96 Honda Civic has had that.

Brand loyalty and dependability. Have had many GM vehicles over the last 45 years and very few problems with any of them.

I'd highly recommend waiting for the 2020 MY trucks before making any decisions. They're adding features in they should have had in 2019 (namely adaptive cruise control) as well as expanding the 6.2 and 10-speed across the lineup. First year vehicles always have some teething issues regardless of the make/model.

To me, the most serious competition is the F-150. Rams have problems with A/C, even in the obs it was adequate at best. Tundra is reliable, but ancient and doesn't do too great with the most modern crash test methodology. Ford does a better job packaging the options/trim levels than GM for one thing, the trucks also have great A/C systems. The interiors have a better design than the GM trucks, but the materials aren't quite as good. There is also the Raptor, which is an absolute beast. I've never really been a fan of Ford products, but the latest F-series/Expedition/Navigator are seriously impressive. Definitely worth test driving and seeing what's out there.

Because I would never drive a Ford and Dodges have way too many problems, I have had two, never again!  Love my Trail Boss!  But if you are in the market, I would wait a few months, seems like the 2020 Chevy's will have a lot more options.

I'm going to be testing them back to back (Ford and Chevy) this weekend.  Appreciate all the feedback!  I'll update with my feedback and decision either way!
