noticed yours was built in mexico, thought they where all built in Indiana.
Maybe just the dmax engines are built in indiana. Final assembly elsewhere

3.0L engine is built in a plant in Flint. (Flint Engine Operations ).

1500 Crew cabs are assembled in Mexico.

there`s a sticker on my left frt door that says fort wayne assembly with UAW an GM on it .so I have to assume that's where final assembly took place .

Not driving much but was a deal I could hardly pass up.

 

Being in Texas it shows Mexico assembly as well.

Ft Wayne, Indiana assembly builds some crew short box. I am pretty sure all the CarbonPro trucks are built at Ft Wayne because the carbon bed supplier is very close by. I don't think the engine choice has much to do with where the truck is built though.

The regular 6.5 box trucks has a lower payload rating compared to the short 5.3 box trucks, the off-road package may also add a few pounds over the Z71 but I seriously doubt it.

So we got our 2020 3.0 Crew cab/short box denali in December and only had the chance to put a couple thousand miles on it.  ‘This week we finally got to take it on our first big trip out west.  We are half way through the trip and going through SD and WY we avg’d about 75-80 mph. We have 4 people in the truck and bed has luggage and supplies and we are getting about 25mpg. I realize if we went 55mph that we’d probably get closer to epa numbers but I’m pretty happy with this result. Additionally before this trip, with around town driving, we were getting consistently getting 24-25. We took this same trip a few years back with our suburban and averaged about 18-19 mpg.

Overall truck is doing very well and no issues- Its a pleasure to drive and comfortable for all.

Yes, i'm towing a 7x16 enclosed. 7000 lbs is very comfortable for this truck. Only on steeper grades will it drop from 10th to 9th with cruise set at 65-70. Good news is the tow/haul mode is very well tuned so it will hold 9th for duration of the hill and prevent gear hunting like the gassers tend to do. Furthermore, 10th and 9th are such a close gear ratio that you won't even notice it if you are looking for it. I can't speak for 9000+ towing but unless you regularly tow in very hilly terrain, there's ample low end torque, smooth, smart and quite transmission works with it flawlessly. 

PS - anyone not sold on 3.0 vs 5.3 gas, wait until you go down a steep hill in tow/haul mode and listen to the turbo spool as it's vanes close to create back pressure. Truck will automatically down shift and turbo works to slow the truck down saving your breaks. Might not mean much to you but it does to me:)

Very interesting thread after 28 pages. I've been lurking as I'm considering a new pick up come later this fall and leaning towards a 2021 Silverado 1500, and now considering the 3.0 Duramax engine. It would be my first diesel so I am as ignorant as they come in regards to diesel engines. For those who have experience, do you see an issue with me only driving it 5,000-6,000 per year....it's going to sit a lot and mostly get used on the weekends for hunting, fishing. camping and long highway trips to see family. Thoughts?

Anti Ignorant Rule #1.  Put diesel in it.  (Dont laugh, when you're trained to head to the pump, diesel isnt on you mind)

 

Mine is used for weekend hauls and very short trips occasionally during the week (otherwise I use my car).  So far, totally content. tow a boat 9000lbs and and enclosed trailer around 2500lbs.  

 

1500 miles and I still have not noticed a regen - although Im sure its happened. I guess that is a good thing.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
