Well, this was a fun experience

Just a couple months after I had my bumper color matched, this happens.  ??

20yo girl (probably on her phone) decided not to slow down with traffic on the interstate.  We were cruising about 80 and I had slowed to about 50, she did not - lol.

Body shop that did my custom work is doing the repairs and have me at $8k without frame inspection (hitch receiver is completely bend up under the truck).  Needless to say, I wanted to strangle something.

While the truck is in the shop I'm going to have them add some Rigid flush mount lights to the new bumper and an exhaust.

The fun part will be diminished value and arguing with her insurance on how much money I've actually lost.

Kudos to Jeep - that wrangler sure did hold up.

Be ready for a frame swap.  I was rear ended a couple months ago and the body guy at the dealership said it doesn't take much to bend the frame, and they don't repair them when they get bent.

Luckily mine was low enough speed that it didn't bend the frame.

id rather have an all new frame over a repaired one... not me paying for it. lol

I have liberty mutual and opted for that better car replacement option, im thinking if mine ever gets totaled they would pay me the price for one year newer and 10k miles less. Could cover some of the mods.

Getting beefy aftermarket bumpers an option?

Damn! The truck took a lot of energy out of that impact, but I bet it really hurt your doodie biscuits!

fortunately she had good insurance (so far).

I thought about aftermarket bumpers, but then I would have to pay for a front one too (I like em to match).

Without a doubt, persue a diminished value claim. I did so after my previous truck was hit while parked on the side of my house and the guy took off. He luckily got caught a very short time later. He had Allstate and they have a diminished value department. I ended up having this guy prepare a DV report and it is very professional. Without it I was fighting a losing battle https://stlucieappraisal.net/

At first, Allstate said they dont do DV claims but after persisting, they finally started the DV claim. It is a separate process from the actual repair claim. They tried lowballing me first but I wouldnt take their offer. I finally got close to the amount I wanted.

And just to add, a DV claim doesnt necessarily mean you are planning on selling or trading in your vehicle. It is compensation for what your vehicle is worth just prior to the damage and the loss of value just after the damage. As most will be aware, when folks are shopping for a used vehicle, they will many times request a carfax report or Autocheck report. A damage free vehicle will command a better price than a vehicle that has been previously damaged and especially when the reports show frame damage. Many will not even consider a frame damaged vehicle even if it is completely repaired back to factory specs...

Yea, I wouldn't be too sure....   I think there will be some significant unseen damage.    I went for years putting heavy duty custom bumpers on my trucks.  My friend who had the same bumper as mine was in an accident.  The VW he hit was totalled and his truck sustained no immediate signs of damage.  The fact that he had to force open and close his doors after the accident was the first clue that his truck was seriously damaged. (repair exceeded value).   A crumple is not always a bad thing!

This is why I hate people. Pursue her and her insurance company for everything you can...rear Enders are no fault no question. Stupid isn’t illegal but stupid should pay, hopefully enough to bankrupt her.

That’s excessive, you don’t even know what her cause was. Accidents happen. I hope no one ever has that mindset towards you or a loved one. When the guy totaled my truck I was upset because it was his fault, but the accident and having to deal with it is payback enough.. everyone is so sue happy it’s a joke..

Yeah I don't care her reason, none is good enough to justify infringing on someone else's property and lives.  It's not excessive; what the moron did is excessive.  Fortunately, it doesn't sound like OPs passengers were hurt; if they were I guarantee you wouldn't be singing that sympathy tune.  If a person is stupid enough to cause an accident they need to pay dearly.

Coworker opened her door into my truck causing $1700 body shop estimate, I found out a few days later; I filed a police report for her leaving the scene of an accident.

Lol, so you want to “ bankrupt” someone for a fender bender.. maybe a little worse, but no one was hurt... again bankrupt someone for bumper damage... if they are drinking and driving and kill someone.. sure that’s a different story.. sue the hell outta them for negligence.. but accidents happen.. no need to Ruin someone’s life when insurance can pay.. that’s why we have it.

I take it you and that co worker don’t speak..

Caring for injuries is one thing. Trying to bankrupt someone over vehicle damage is another.

They're insured, go that route. I do not agree with being excessive. My ex-wife's family is that way. I can't stand it.

Get enough to get right. But trying to bury someone over an accident that didn't hurt anybody is not right at all.

We're all people. We make mistakes. No one was hurt here, so there shouldn't be any serious vengeful response.

At one point that person was someone's child. Their pride and joy. And you want to intentionally ruin their lives over material things? Man. That's what insurance is for.

I have small children and I'm terrified if they ever graze the bumper of someone like you looking for a payout. That ain't right.

Makes me want to think that if he was the one that caused an accident that he would try to go after them for something because after all it's their fault for being in his way.
