I bit the bullet and bought the factory GM camera. I did the install today using the factory furion mount. Popped the hole behind the mount into the rear top bunk, then into the shower wall and fished up the length of the trailer. I coiled the excess wire up and secured in the underbelly. I will say the camera is crystal clear and I can’t wait to use it on my trip. I opted for the plan model camera that doesn’t have the invisible view. I highly recommend it. 8A6B994A-DBFF-480F-B0A5-863011A54ABF.jpeg.2e3cd39436351d0f2f025885d9b5cf2f.jpeg

Great job, you’re going to love it. I agree that the image is crystal clear.
I like the idea of going through the hole already there from the Furrion camera.

They need a wireless version that connects to the infotainment system. I've tried a few times and my 5er is just too long and I keep snatching it out of the end. I went back to my Furrion wireless observation camera. On the plus side, I can put the monitor inside and watch what's going on. LOL!

I'll send you a DM - I have a 10' one I ordered but didn't end up needing.

Without having read all 10 pages...is there an aftermarket camera available that will plug directly to the system or is GM the only source thus far?

I'm really not too concerned with the invisible view. I just want to see behind my camper.

While driving, if you switch to the rear camera view will it stay on your display or is it only on the 10sec timer like the other camera views?  I'd love to have that view visible constantly while towing like a rear view mirror. Wonder if anyone has wired their trailer camera to the tailgate camera so it shows in the electronic rear view mirror?

Great thread everyone. I've learned more here that I could glean from Chevrolet sales & tech materials. I have just ordered a 2022 Chevy 3500HD DRW Double cab longbed LT to haul a large-ish slide-in camper. I spec'd out the UVN Bed View Camera so the truck will come with the two camera jacks on the rear bumper.

It sounds like the Auxiliary Trailer Camera (Part # 85004154) will be the right choice to mount on the back of the slide-in camper and I hope the system will still work once the tailgate is removed. Has anyone tried this, with or without a truck camper? I don't expect or need the invisible view (as cool as it is!) but would really like a high quality rear camera view integrated with the truck infotainment when the camper is loaded. In my use scenario, might the camera need to be plugged into the "inside view" jack?

Having a second screen for a third party camera system is a really weak second choice when Chevrolet built this great system. Thanks for all the great information...ned.

You can purchase the cables online through Pasternack (https://www.pasternack.com/). The SKU for the 10' cable is

PE3W08444-120. The last 3 digits represent the length of the cable in inches, so if you need a 20' cable, the SKU would be PE3W08444-240.

I bought one of those cables. The connectors are smaller than the end of the factory cable that is attached to the camera. Did you need to modify your camera cable to accept the much smaller connector? How about plugging the much smaller end of the cable from pasternack into the back of the truck? How did you use the cable?

Is it:

Truck Bumper Connector <> Extension Cable <> Factory Standard Camera Cable <> Camera?

OR

Truck Bumper Connector <> Factory Standard Camera Cable <> Extension Cable <> Camera?

OR

Something else?

I am looking to extend my camera cable by about 10 feet and am not seeing how the pasternack cable will fit the connector on the bumper and/or the connector on the cable. Can you share pictures?

Many thanks for your help! Really appreciate it.

The camera is marked "top" and the cord exits the camera body going up no matter how you position the bracket.  If you turn the camera over, the image would be reversed.  The loop isn't ideal, but it is necessary if you are going underneath.  I'm debating painting the cable the same color as the trailer just to make it stick out less.

Have a 2020 Keystone Montana 3741FK (40’ 5th wheel) and read through this whole thread and many others last year. Had issues with the wireless camera and decided to buy the GM camera. Mounted it high and ran the cable down the ladder and underneath in pvc conduit. Fished through to the hitch near the 7 pin cable. Want to move the camera jack from the bumper to the bed but haven’t yet because of a problem. Everything works great (we do get a little fish eye) until it doesn’t. After 3-4 hours of towing the video display goes haywire. Have had it to the dealership three times. 1st time did some type of reprogramming - no change. 2nd time replaced video processing module - no change. 3rd time they tried to recreate problem and couldn’t - now they want my trailer along with my truck.  Wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a similar issue.

Similar, but not on the Chevy system.  A few years back we used PVC pipe to run the video cable through.  The area was really windy, and we didn't want the cable damaged.  Problem was, the wind generated static electricity in the PVC, it would build up and create weird video issues.  We ended up grounding the PVC to stop the issue.

Might be worth trying to ground the PVC to the frame of the 5th wheel, if it isn't already.  Probably a few metal clamps along the pipe would do.  Cheap thing to try.

Good luck, and happy trails.

"underneath in pvc conduit. "

wind will cause static build  up on PVC when driving...

you may get lucky grounding the PVC...but how I do not know

else run a new cable to verify

This is my first post here since I just replaced my Ram with a 2022 Silverado 1500LTD LTZ.  I have the surround vision system and want to add the rear trailer camera to get rid of the extra monitor I used with my 30' travel trailer.

I just purchased and received the trailer camera (PN 85004154) from Shop Chevy Parts.  I plugged it in but the truck is not detecting it.  Does a trailer have to be connected for it to work?  My camper is in storage and I have not been able to get over there to check out the full trailer setup.  I want to make sure it works before I install anything.  I also need to get it over to a tire shop to have the included tire pressure sensors installed in my camper.

One other thought I just had...  I do not have the tow mirrors.  Will the system still work well (including invisible trailer mode) with the standard mirrors and an 8' wide camper?  I'm not sure that the cameras on the regular mirrors I have are out far enough to see all the way down the trailer side.

Thanks in advance for any input.
