The camera does not look waterproof. I think it would need to be installed in a housing.

On the other hand it is much less expensive for the interior if I can get it to work.

If you look close at the photos I made. I have multiple close up of the camera and how its made. It appears to be water proof although I would be safe to say not immersed or multiple meters Those that have the equinox cameras in hand can look again at the photos. You can also see the camera cable from the factory as well as the Pasternack cable I utilized to extend the camera 20 feet. If you could maybe take some photos to compare to my close ups. https://photos.app.goo.gl/d2UVb4djaqf3ashL9

In my trailer I have a1/2 electrical EMT conduit which will protect the cable really well.

One thing to add is I used a Scotch 133 rubber vulcanizing tape 1 layer and 1 to 2 layers of Scotch 33+ tape to fill the void on the camera ball where the camera enters the plastic ball.

Chuck

Chuck,

Do you have EMT conduit all the way to the camera mount? If not, how did you protect the cable from the camera to the point where it enters into your EMT conduit?

Do you have pictures of how you built up and protected the Pasternack cable?  I was thinking of wrapping it in a braided loom first and then put that inside a split loom.

How did you protect the connectors between the original cable and the new Pasternack cable? I'm guessing that at 20', that connector is somewhere under your trailer. Is wrapping the connection in Scotch 33+ sufficient?

Thanks!

Ok I ran the original cable from the truck bed with ample slack so it had enough when I went I to a full jack knife turn. The cable is well protected for use under the trailer as I zip tied it to a large 1-1/2 EMT  conduit supplying 12 volts to my DC power panel and 8000# winch. I ran 1/2" EMT in the ceiling and 1 90* elbow bent to go down the wall to under the trailer. I used a extra bushing so it won't get damaged, I also used "electrical duct seal" it's a clay like brick to seal conduits to deter rodents and bees going into the conduits.I connected the 20' extension which will snap and lock together. I used 1 thin layer of 33+ tape to hold both cables making 1 pass of tape. I pulled the Pasternack cable to the top rear inside the trailer. I used a wire loom and covered the Pasternack cable passing thru the trailer rear wall and some slack to the camera. You can see the previous link on how I did the camera housing entry. I have to make sure you understand it was a tight and firm pull the get the GM cable end around / thru that 90* bend. I actually went to Lowes used the 1/2 EMT bender on a full length of EMT. They looked at me, I said I just bent it but it's a straight pipe lol. So I would also recommend clear poly lube wire lube slobbered around the pasternack and GM connection in the EMT bends.

Good Luck

Chuck

I was looking up that part number and that camera seems to be used on more than just the Equinox. Looking forward to your next update after you receive the OEM camera.

Does that camera seem to be weatherproof or does it need to be in a separate housing?

I'm in the same boat, would love to have cameras on both of my horse trailers - inside and outside.

I received the accessory trailer camera assembly today.

I plugged in a LED trailer adapter (has resistors to fool the truck into thinking a trailer is attached).

I plugged the camera in, started the truck and it works fine.

I turned off the truck and plugged in the equinox camera and there is still a blank screen. Either the camera is defective or it isn’t compatible with the truck.

After looking at the camera it does look like the equinox camera must be water resistant on it’s own.

Hopefully someone else posts if they are able to get the equinox camera to work.

Yesterday I got my photos and also added captions to help others on what I accomplished. There are 2 links as the first was various cables from Pasternack and 1 was 4 feet and the second was 20 feet. The 20 foot Pasternack is in a 1/2 EMT electrical conduit. The 4 foot was utilized to relocated the bumper camera receptacle into the bed. I swapped the receptacles between the bed and the bumper. This relocated the 4 pin trailer connector from the bed to the bumper. This link also shows the factory cable at the camera

The second link is to show how I installed the 1/2 EMT conduit in the wall of my trailer which runs in the ceiling to the rear of the trailer. The first 3 photos shows the wall open. The rest of the photos shows the rear cameras like the mirror and the camper camera views. This should give a angle and what you would see.

I wonder if perhaps the camera is bad. I haven't been able to test because my trailer was in the shop getting some warranty work done and I left the camera kit in the trailer to see if my dealer could give me an estimate for installing it. In the end, I'm about 14' short so I ordered an extension cable from Pasternack and will do the install myself.

In the meantime, I started looking for the camera with part number 23390514. One of the websites I found that had the camera also listed it also superseded by part # 84676845.

I then looked up 84676845 and it seems to be a very common GM camera used on a lot of cars and trucks. I picked up my trailer yesterday and am prepping for a camping trip, so probably won't have time, but was thinking of pulling the tailgate camera and attaching it to the trailer camera cable and seeing if it worked.

Could be a cheaper option, but even if I got the camera, would still need an aftermarket cable that plugged into the truck receptacle.

Anyone else willing to try out a camera on their truck hooked up to the OEM cable?

Can you post up the LED Trailer adapter you used please?

I'm getting a Lance Camper for the bed so this would make the camera work if I could trick the truck into thinking a trailer was plugged in.

Hi, I used the Reese 20142 7-Way adapter. $24.45 on Amazon.

How critical is the 32' max trailer length for the transparent view feature?  Will it still work on a 36' camper trailer?

It will work.  You have to use 32' as your max length or it will not accept longer numbers.

I finally got around to installing the camera on the rear of my 5th wheel (30ft.) today.  The install went flawlessly and the image on the dash screen is perfect. I would also like to thank everyone that posted information about the installation of the camera, you guys are why this site is so valuable.  It sure will be nice being able to have the camera on the rear of the trailer.

Here's another idea for mounting & running your wires.  As I didn't want to drill holes in my rear wall, I mounted my camera to a piece of 3/4 × 1-1/2  aluminum channel and attached it to my to the ladder with stainless steel u-bolts. I then ran 3/4" PVC conduit under the trailer through the open tubing that the springs mount on for the entire length of the trailer. A wide 90 degree coupling then up the ladder. I pulled my wire before gluing that coupling to make it easier.

Does this bounce around in the camera view, this is EXACTLY what I'm going to do for my truck camper.
