The best way is to buy a new crate engine from a reputable engine builder.

The cheaper / easier way is to run a synthetic 10W-30 motor oil. Might not eliminate the noise, but may quiet it down some, depending on what oil you're running now. Sounds counter-intuitive going to a thicker viscosity, but the heavier oil is what's needed to quiet things down (in some cases - YMMV).

Best way to eliminate AFM (4-cyl. mode) is to install an AFM delete kit. Check out Texas Speed for that: https://www.texas-speed.com/p-7379-dod-afm-delete-kit-for-536062-engines.aspx In addition to this, you MUST have AFM tuned out of your engine computer. There are various companies on the net that can do this too. Search your local area for a speed shop, and see if they can do this for you. An added benefit is, you could have the ECU tuned for your particular engine's running characteristics, and pick up a few ponies while you're there as well.

The cheaper / easier way is to install a Range AFM disabler into your ALDL (or DLC ... or OBD-II port): https://www.rangetechnology.com/products/afm_disabler/  Lots of times these can be found used on eBay for much cheaper than new, after the owner upgrades to a Texas Speed delete kit. This is the route I took about 4 years ago.
