Skip school for a year. So what you graduate at 19. What do they think would happen? Forget everything they learned?

(Isn't really about kids, is it?)

Can't skip the school year. The kids need some form of learning, whatever that may be. They will lose the basics in math and language arts.

We went on a short trip to our favorite casino. It was a first time out since the bug. People were following the mandates in the few states we traveled. Mostly stopped at truck stops. Fast food lobbies were closed. The casinos were full of old people also following the mandates. It was a prelude for our cross country trip in three weeks. I feel much better about it. Testing the water was a success. To all you stay at home sissies. By all means do it. The rest exercise your freedoms. By the way if I get the bug I’ll let you all know.

2 consecutive 4 day periods adding a million world wide cases. Yea, a million cases every four days.

You’re right, the liberal justification for keeping the schools closed is not about the kids. Or the teachers for that matter. If it was, there wouldn’t even be a question to open them. Myself and everyone else in the world knows that’s the right thing to do. The studies aren’t ambiguous, read one. Any one of them.

And stop calling them cases. They are positive test results, nothing more. A case to me would at least imply having symptoms, and maybe even requiring medical care. The people who feel just fine but visit the drive thru test out of curiosity (or to get off of work for two weeks) are NOT cases in my view. And there’s a LOT of these people.

It may be splitting hairs but I see it as deliberate fear mongering nonetheless.

The advantages of staying home in your own state or province is it limits spread, makes for easier monitoring and keeps your money local.    I don't consider myself a sissie and I choose to make decisions that support my provincial efforts.  Containment and contact tracing are terms that make a lot of sense when dealing with this virus. Both are made less effective when we travel out of state/province.   I remember back in January when news specials were illustrating how global plane travel effectively spreads a virus like this all around the world.  In a short time we were all fighting a pandemic that air travel distributed.  We now have a pretty good handle on the air travel spread and can reduce the numbers of infected people arriving and departing at airports.  Travelling through out our vast countries will spread the virus within our countries' borders.  Currently states and provinces have a range in numbers of infections.   Travel will only serve to bring those with low numbers up.  It would be great if it worked the opposite way!

^^^All null and void if you wear your mask correct?^^^

We all know how and why the numbers are the way they are. Let’s not kid ourselves here. It’s not because of you and me.

The only ones counting cases are the countries that count and like I have said, "It's all meaningless and useless for infliction that will encounter almost every A$$hole on the planet in a couple seasons"

Fauci, Your MASK...lol yeah, the mask?  Trump, Biden...etc. closing Schools, Gyms, etc.  Yeah..all that is going to keep you SAFE!  Safe from what?  Zombies?

It's .8% like I believed it to be the IFR so the sooner you all get over the fear mongering and let the FAT die off we can move on!

These are studies which are finally coming that do keep the noise, trash data out!

Yes, the risk is definitively there on the older generation so You want to maintain distance, less encounters, "MASK UP" inform those people to follow the guidelines etc. and let the VIRUS RUN IT"COURSE the sooner the better FOLKS!  At our present clip....we can have 30-40% USA population already exposed..."MOOT VACCINE POINT" come January 2021.  Also, I will be IDIOT #1 UNO EN NUMERO TRUMP SUPPORTER BIDEN LOATHER not standing in line for your manufactured COVID-19 Vaccine!  That juice is for all you SHEEP get in line!

Kilpatrick and others say they are eagerly awaiting large studies that estimate fatality rates across age groups and among those with pre-existing health conditions, which will provide the most accurate picture of how deadly the disease is. One of the first studies to account for the effect of age was posted on a preprint server last week. The study, based on seroprevalence data from Geneva, Switzerland, estimates an IFR of 0.6% for the total population, and an IFR of 5.6% for people aged 65 and older.

We had one coach that spread it around to a couple of other adults. Kids have all been fine

hmm...Never heard that before or seen the literature about kids....Close the schools until 2021

Kids have been fine.  Coach just passed it on to a couple of other adults that hung around with him

So, the post rolls on.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but don't you think (remember, just my opinion) it is curious that the masks are being pushed so hard as a "band aid" stop (containment) gap for the virus?

The virus started in a country where their culture has been wearing face masks for years in fear contracting whatever the new flavor of the month virus might be.

The Seattle and Vancouver BC areas are very diversified in how many cultures coexist here, and the Asian presence have always wore some sort of face covering while in public for years, so once again, just my opinion, and no I do not like being in a mask all day at work, and everywhere else I go, while still seeing more cases reported each day.

What I don’t understand is these mlb players wearing masks. They are tested daily.

Also if masks are so effective
Then quit closing everything down and open up. Don’t understand this either

1.  Masks aren't perfect.  Only an idiot presents them that way.  It only helps in reducing transmission.

2.  Tests aren't perfect.  The most accurate tests also take the longest to get results.  So getting tested daily over a period of time, the results you get today show you who was infected one or more days ago.

3.  I lived in Vancouver, BC for more than 10 years.  While they have a large Asian population, not a lot of them wore masks on a day-to-day basis.

1.) There is no KNOWN herd immunity to this virus.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/herd-immunity-and-coronavirus/art-20486808

2.) The infection rate required to achieve herd immunity is over 70% of the population. Same article.

Even if current infection rates are 10 X higher and we keep the current death count as of today diluting the MR the number of dead to .43%, the number of dead to achieve herd immunity in a world population of 7.8 BILLION is staggering.

23,332,400 DEAD to get immunity IF it can even be done.

You or know one else knows.

23.3 MILLION DEAD

This is 5th grade math folks not fear mongering

Fractions of a percent are HUGE numbers when dealing with pools of BILLIONS.

:wtf:

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
