I mistakingly removed the nut on top of my front passenger side shock while installing MotoFab front leveling kit. I got everything back together but the shaft spins and I can’t grab it with anything due to it being sunk into frame. Any ideas on what to use to tighten this up?   I’ll try to snap a pic tomorrow.

Typically, the tip of the shock is used to prevent it from rotating.  Some will have provision for an allen key (or something similar), some will have a machined in square or hex to put a wrench on the end.

Wait you removed the top strut bolt that holds the spring down? Did you remove it completely? If so you will need to pull the coil over out and use a spring compressor to re-secure the nut.

A vise grips with some rubber hose on the ends would work if you can get it to grab on to the shock piston through the coil spring. Then brap it down with an impact gun.

I have had good luck with the weight of the truck pushing down on it and the impact going to town.

If you are asking how to reassemble a completely apart strut and coil Then yes, you will need some spring compressors.

whats the update on this issue? were you talking about the center nut on the strut?

I did the same thing while not paying attention awhile back.  I had to remove the coil and shock from the vehicle to repair it.

Can you tell me how you got the spring out? The top of my strut snapped off and I've tried lowering the control arm as far as it'll go but I can't get pressure off it. I'm thinking my only option are the widow maker spring compressors if I can get them in there and cranked down. Looks like it might work but I'm not exactly rushing to try it lol. Any ideas or tips greatly appreciated!!

With weight on the strut, you can wrap/lace the spring (the weight on it keeps it compressed some) with a heavy gauge wire. The more and tighter you get it laced the safer it will be. It should be enough to hold it all together to get it out of the truck. Unless you have a fancy strut compressor, then the dangerous part of getting the wire off while under tension. At least its not going to damage the truck and its not right in your face either.

Out of the truck you could take it to a shop too.

Not a bad idea, might do this in addition to the screw down compressors, just for some extra pieces of mind. Thanks!

No fancy spring compressors here, just the old beater rentals from autozone

Get it out of the truck then using the rent-a-compressor will be easier.
