I even tried driving like 25 mph in reverse and slamming on the brakes to shift them to the back. Didn’t work.

Video please.

Barreling down the street in reverse and then tire screech.  Really need a video of this.....

Barreling into the off topic side of the thread ill direct you to watch the first episode of 'The last man on Earth.' Dude has a bed full of bowling balls and he's trying to hit a wall of fish tanks in a parking lot. Conveniently its also a 2014 Silverado he uses

Yes vote for a tarp.
Before the tarp though I took a piece of 2x4 because that's what I had a d I cut it down 2 a 2x2 or so then cut the end to fit in the grooves of the bed Nd i was able to push all the rocks and soil put pretty well.

Then someone told me about a tarp and it made it even easier haha.

Rear brakes are definitely not powerful. The difference in stopping power is very noticeable.

Surely a bed full of rocks in an emergency stop going forward would slam them all into the front of the bed. Didn’t even budge them going backwards.

I use a big tarp. I spread it in the bed, over the sides, tailgate and up over the back of the cab. This protects my beautiful paint when the guy dumps in the material. The tarp has protected the sides of my rear fenders from stones many times.

When he's done, I fold it over, roll my tonneau back and drive home.

At home, I drop the tailgate and make sure the tarp is spread over the tailgate, including the gap. After most of the product has been shoveled out, I'll fold the tarp over and drag the remainder out by pulling on the tarp. Done...clean bed.

I used a tarp like others have done , But i also put a tarp under the tailgate when unloading , so what falls is a easy clean up .

I got a piece of pipe insulation, the foam kind and fit it in between the tailgate and the bed.  That way nothing falls down in between.  Now on the new trucks they have a seal you can put in there.  I got one for my 2019.

Other wise I just sweep out with a broom what I can and then use a garden hose to get the rest out.

Funny how the obvious, simple solutions can come as a surprise!  I used a tarp for the dirty stuff even with beat up trucks.  Unloading is so much easier!  I typically use an old utility trailer for rocks and dirt.  It has a better load height and there is no urgency to get all of the material off-loaded.

Now that I’m shoveling rocks. I have a life question.

on average, how many $50 wheelbarrows does the average person need to buy before they realize they are dumb and should have bought a $100 wheelbarrow.

My wheelbarrow just buckled and keeled over on its side under the weight.

So now I have

-a nice lawn full of f-ing rocks

-no wheelbarrow for the remaining rocks

damnit!!

I see old guys go and buy expensive tools and gear.  I think... Why they pay that when they will either never use it or use it once... Then it hits me, they have finally learned the lesson of doing it right the first time, lol!

That's where I am going now.  I don't have time to keep doing it my way.  I used to think think that Im a man and do not need things to be easier..

My wife just told me what I said is true... The right tool for the just b, the first time.  She doesn't say anything when I get new tools or gear.  Past two weeks, I have been buying stuff that has made things so much easier.

I don't know why, but the last post reminded me of something. Did you ever go to a friend's house to help them with something and need a hacksaw? They hand you this saw with a completely dull blade, the teeth are all gone. So many people don't realize you are able to change the blade on those things. My father in law had six hacksaws hanging up. Not one had a good blade!
