Is there a difference in price if you buy the warranty sooner rather than later?

Nope, and they are like anything else in the car buying process and can be negotiated down. Where they really go up in price is when you add it after the 3/36.

I have never bought an extended warranty and it has paid off. However I do wish I had one on my 2019. Will I get the opportunity to buy one now that I am past the mileage???

My thought on this. The internet has not be kind to these trucks, so far I have had very little trouble with mine. But I was offered a GM extended warranty when I bought my truck for a real good price. I keep my trucks 4-7 years on average but like the dealer said to help it hold it's value a ext. warranty can only help and if you need it you got it. Buying it from the start was about half as much. I figure weather I use it or don't it should help me in reselling it at some point.

My dealer is offering me the following:

48months/75,000 additional miles - $2985.00

60months/100,000 additional miles - $3752.00

And also here: https://www.knappvehicleservicecontracts.com/

Curious to hear what you decide.

Edit: The second link offered me (if memory serves) 7 years and 120k miles, pretty comprehensive coverage, with $100  ded, for roughly $2500.

Thanks. They both require me to call them so I'll do it next week.

My dealer knows I have 45k and is willing to quote me based on 35k. Hopefully others are willing  to do the same.

As long as you buy an extended warranty before 3/36k the price is the same whether you buy it day 1 or at 35,999 miles. If a dealer tells you otherwise they’re lying to you. We just went in a few months ago and bought the extended warranty for my wife’s 17 Tahoe. My friend is sales manager at the dealership and always advises friends and family to wait and buy it right before the factory warranty is up.

exactly

you can buy them at anytime and they extend past factory......you are using factory warranty for first 3/5yrs,  price didnt change for my toyota that i had 15 yrs.....and i would never purchase from a dealer.....huge markup

anything the dealer sells you can be purchased in free world for ALOT less.....extended warranty is last thing on my mind driving off the dealer lot in my new truck, lol.....seriously, ill think about it in 2yrs or so when i need it.....not day 1 when i dont

As of now I simply set aside the would-be premium to pay for future repairs.  If I consume the funds before 120k miles on needed repairs than I lost "the bet"......if I get past 120k miles without having $2,500 in repairs, then I figure I won the bet.

Probably 90% of people don't have any money to set aside because they have spent it on trinkets. Any unexpected expense sends them running for the payroll advance place.

So if the extended warranty starts the day you buy it, when it says 100,000, thats 100,000 miles PLUS whatever you currently have on the vehicle, not 100,000 miles total?

Should be. The devil is in the details. Read the contract. I can see it going both ways.

That is NOT my understanding.  It is confusing because, imo, an ext warranty STARTS when the mfg warranty expires.  However, regardless of when it starts, as I understand it, the ext warranty runs until your odometer reaches 100k (to use your example), NOT 100k plus whatever was on your odometer when you signed up.  Confirm with whomever is selling the ext warranty.

All the warranties I have seen. If they say 8 years 100k. That's 8 years from when you bought it and 100k odometer miles.

I have 8 8 year ALLY warranty. So it's 8 years from the day I bought it. I also have 100,000 on the warranty so since the truck had 35 miles when I bought I have 100,035 miles untill the warranty runs out.

Seems verys high. My dealer just quoted me $2400 for a 6 year 100k miles GMEPP at time of purchase. Go up to 2800 if i did it at a later date.

I got a quote from James E. Black Cadillac for my 2021 GMC Sierra Denali this past Saturday (3/20/2021). It’s for the GM Extended Protection Plan. 7 years/56,000 miles with a zero deductible for $1,685 and no tax since I don’t live in Pennsylvania. More details at link below.
