How much should a used 2024 Sierra 2500HD AT4 with 5900 miles sell for? It is Volcanic Red Tintcoat and has the AT4 Premium Plus package which includes the AT4 Preferred package and the Technology package and has the power steps. The MSRP for a similar vehicle is now $87,200 but was $86,380 when the truck was originally sold in June. I've always heard that a vehicle lost up to 20% of its value when it was driven off the lot. The dealer that took this one as trade is asking $87,999. I think $75K for a this truck is fair. What do you think?

Try to find out how long they’ve had it. Look carefully at the stickers on it and on their web page and other ads and you should be able to find out. If they’ve had it more than a week then numerous people have seen their ads and are passing on it at that price. Priced right it would go in days.

With order wait times back down to about 3 months, that dealer is pushing it and just hoping to get an impatient customer. That’s one approach to car sales, and it might work for them here, but with interest rates so high they need to move stuff. I think that is one of the less popular colors, as well.

Your $75k would not be an insulting offer, although they might act like it is. Make the offer you think is fair (I have no idea what’s fair because I haven’t done the research, but new msrp plus isn’t fair in the current market). When they initially say no just give them your phone number and walk out. They’ll call you back within a few days if it hasn’t sold. If it does sell, be glad your weren’t the one who paid over new msrp for a used truck.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are in it what your "thinking" price is, if not more.  They probably gave the person who traded it somewhere between 77-81K.

Could you talk them down from the over MSRP they are asking?  Sure.  Will you be able to talk them down towards 75k?  Unlikely.

I know there is lots of grumbling out there about how the market is "coming down" and new inventory is up, and ordering is flowing better, but it still hasn't quite trickled the effects all the way down.  Plus many places bought there used inventory high to begin with now as well.

Thanks for the info.

It appears this truck was traded in for a Genesis vehicle after 4 months of ownership by a corporation.

The dealership has the original window stick posted in their "Auto Ipacket" about the vehicle so they know what the original MSRP was. Yet they have a retail price of $91,250 posted on their website.

sounds like a shady dealer.

dealers around here were pulling that crap.

i was in the market for a new truck, they low balled me on my trade, then added mark-up to the msrp. trucks were selling pretty fast at that time.

i think those days are sailing away.

that same dealer is now sitting on many new trucks for less than msrp.

i would not even entertain a used truck unless there was a significant discount off the original msrp

May not be relevant, but I know a lot of banks will finance a car with less than 7,000 miles as a "new" car instead of financing as a "used" car. I have no idea what a fait offer would be - just throwing some more information your way.

A “corporation” that thought they needed a heavy duty pickup with fancy options than realized they needed a Hyundai? Yeah I’m gonna call bs on that. Likely it’s some business owner playing funny for write offs.

Thanks for all the comments.

I checked out the truck today. The young lady assisting me said that the previous owner's wife didn't like riding in the truck so they traded it in for a Genesis SUV. It hasn't been cleaned yet and there was trash i the cab and bed.

I won't touch it till they go below 75k if then.

Ha, I'm sure the lady assisting you didn't make that up... Kind of a big switch from a diesel HD truck to a Hyundai (isn't a Genesis an older sedan model?).

Odd to get a HD truck and not like the ride of it. I would only get a truck like this for a purpose. For example, I tow my boat, my 2 German Shepherd dogs, and load my truck bed full of cargo when going back and fourth to my cabin.

Genesis is its own brand now still made by Hyundai. My wife’s car is a Hyundai genesis. Now they just say Genesis.

Ah, gotcha, it's Hyundai's luxury brand. Thanks for the clarification!

Just like Lexus is a Toyota Infinity is a Nissan and Acura is a Honda.

agreed, they bought it for more than 75k....they aint selling it for cheap at least not for quite awhile......bought and sold trucks thru this whole crazy time last few years......used trucks are still expensive, its the reason new is almost better way to go.....while its correcting we arent there yet, and this being a new model......they will hold out for as long as they can.....if you could get it for 80k that would be a good deal imo......lowest is maybe 82-83k

but if you dont ask youll never know.......need to play the waiting game, give em your info and price your willing to pay nd walk.....they may or may not call to negotiate

this is the game, in meantime look for others.......ive let more than a few get away but also scored on a couple, just the way it goes......take emotion out of it best you can

good luck

I'm not willing to pay MSRP for any truck after seeing that a GMC dealership in Tampa takes approximately 10% off of all new vehicles it sells. Of course some of their fees eat at that 10% but the price is still better than most.

As far as tis particular vehicle goes I can wait. I'll see what price they try to sell it for at the end of the year or January when they're not selling vehicles because everyone is paying off Christmas debt.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
