What should you do to these trannys to make them much stronger?? Add a tranny cooler? and i heard someone mention somethig about a b&m shift kit?? what does this kit do and what does it come with.

Also my truck is a Z71 and i heard someone say the z-71's come with a tranny cooler. Is this right??

You probably do have the tranny cooler. It is mounted in front of the radiator, just above center. My truck does not , and I am adding a factory cooler that comes with replacement hard lines. Trust me, it seems easy until you get to that one long line that goes from the auxiliary cooler to the rear of the trans. That one will be a bear.

What exactly about the 4L60-E do you find to not be strong enough?? I've got 182k on mine and not a lick of trouble. I've not heard of these going out much...

There are TONS of things that can be done to make the tranny stronger. Don't think it isn't strong already, in stock condition it can EASILY transfer 360 lbft of torque. Now to make it more reliable, then yes:

1. A Transmission Cooler

2. B&M Shift or TransGo Shift Improver.

Both of those kits replace GM's plastic valve body pistons with solid steel pistons. Over time the plastic pistons can wear and not function well which can lead to failure. These kits also change some fluid flow and as a result improve shift speed and shift performance. The heart of the transmission is Fluid. The cooler the better, and improving flow to the parts is necessary, just like your blood.

Adding the other parts are design to merely improve the strength of the transmission allowing to to transfer more power than stock. Unless you are dropping 400 HP (flyweel) to it, I would only do the cooler and Shift Kit.

My truck's a Z71 and didnt' come with an auxilary trans cooler, I added one myself. I went with a PermaCool 17,000 GVW cooler that I mounted right behind the grille...looks like it was meant to be there. (sorry, no pics)

If anyone's interested in a B&M shift improver kit, I have one brand new in the box that I'm not going to use. I'm very happy with the shifts after the PCMforLess tune. It cost be about $40 shipped from Summit, I'll let it go for $25 shipped.

THE Sun reaction shell assembly is a known weak spot on the 4L60E  if you are rebuilding look at the "BEAST" reaction sun shell

Kevlar bands would be nice

Higher stall converter for hole shots

here is a couple interesting web site

Negative. Kevlar is not a good idea! They heat up too quick. Red Eagle Alto bands are the way. The 3-4 clutch pack in the 4L60 burns up alot. Accumulator piston is made of plastic. VB seperator plate is really thin and weak. Output shaft is weak. Sun shell blows goats. Stock boost valve needs to go. Aluminum input drum needs reinforcing where the input shaft meets the splines. There is a kit made for this. Man, the list goes on and on. But the TransGo and a B&M cooler would be a good start.
