I pulled a Uhaul 6x12 today, the sticker states the unloaded weight is 1930 lbs. I would guess it was loaded to about 3200 lbs. But it pulled like a brick. I have pulled 6000 lb loads that seemed easier.

The outdoor temp was in the mid 80's. My highest engine temp was 213, highest trans temp was 197.

Those things are notorious for poor maintenance. Probably had 2 dry wheel bearings ... and plus, they are as aerodynamic as a brick wall.

I towed a 5x8 all the way across the country with my 1st '86 Grand Marquis about 18 years ago. Going across NM, I couldn't go any faster than 55 MPH, or the engine light would come on (overheating) - was a constant headwind the entire way. That hitch is so friggin long (so people won't crease the corners backing up) that the air dives down right into the front of the thing, instead of sailing over the top. 10x worse with a pickup too. Like dragging a giant boat anchor.

I've pulled a U-Haul 6x12 with my '91 Nissan King Cab (Tow Cap: 3000lbs on the bumper), loaded trailer weight was double its empty weight, from Clovis, NM to Edwards AFB, CA. Pulled it no problem, seemed to tow nicely. I've pulled every enclosed (5x8 & larger) U-Haul trailer with my Silverado, and the 6x12 does feel like a boulder sized brick. The smaller ones were loaded to capacity and rolled nice. I recently borrowed a friend's 8x20, loaded it up, and man, wouldn't you know it, it pulled/rolled nicer than U-Haul's 6x12s, lately.

This one seems to be well maintained, but the tongue is very long. Kind of a double edged sword there, you can back it very tight, but it really pulls wind.

Another thing, it does have an aluminum floor, which I really like. You know it's built to be abused with a steel frame. There's a lot of metal for that small of a trailer to weigh that much.

Today I refurbished 2 HD clusters an 03 and an 04 and ordered 1000 more stepper motors. Maxed out my credit card lol.

Drove about 400 miles. Noticed a small "knock" in the steering on small bumps that I feel, can't hear it. Not sure what it is, definitely not the steering shaft. Maybe it's slack in the pitman arm?? Hmmm.

Something like that sometimes ends up being wasted shock bushings. Still wouldn't hurt to jack each side up by the lower control arm and do the 1-8 (o'clock), 12-6, 3-9 tug test on the wheel. Use a prybar for the 12-6 test just to make sure the ball joints are good.

Drove around looking for fluids for my upcoming fluid changes this weekend. Shockingly the dealership's 50/50 coolant was the cheapest so I got 7 gallons of that. 4 quarts of Mobil 1 gear old 75/90 for the rear end. Unfortunately no one on my side of town carries Mobil 1 delvac ATF so I'll either have to call the Allison authorized place across town or just have my buddy pick me up some from NAPA after they order it. $300 in parts/filters yesterday and $130 so far today in fluids. ATF is going to be another 100+ if I end up getting the mobil stuff. Why the heck do I own a truck again? :-p

Well, those came with one from the factory ... so it must've fallen out or rotted away ... ???

Don't you think it would be leaking oil? Cause that's not the issue. I don't even know how I would go on to check the oil without

Not unless your PCV system was plugged, or piston rings were worn out.

I would plug that hole off though - it's a nice funnel for road silt and rainwater to travel down ...

That sucks, that's also one of the reasons I like my wheels to stick out a bit...

Went and Made a delivery in Candyland. Then was charged $13.05 by US border Guards to get out.

I went for a short drive just to drive it. Almost hit a yearly moose that ran out in front of me. I've got a whopping 240 miles on it now.
