Guys

 

I’ve read every single post in this thread, but I’m simply confused on what I need to do for my truck. I have a bone stock 2018 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate 4wd (22” wheels). I’m simply trying to raise the front of my truck up to level with the rear. I plan to keep the same stock wheels and tires. Can someone tell me what I need to get?

 

Thanks for the help. I’m not knowledgeable about vehicles and I need some help deciphering all the info I’ve been reading.

So i put my RC 2" level kit and Toyo 295/55/20's on this weekend. Install was simple, just like on my 2011. It definitely helps to have an extra set of hands when wedging that spacer in there. 295/

Mine is finally done! After months of research I went with the RC 2.5" level kit front only, stock rear block. 20"x9" Fuel Nutz w/ +1 offset, 33x12.50x20 Toyo M/T tires. No rubbing, No trimming, yet a

there are kits that level the front and supposedly don't cause any issues. 2" is about max you can go. The issue beyond that starts with the upper ball joint. From what I understand, is that it is not secured in the upper control arm very well. when the angles put on it from leveling, the chances of it popping out greatly increase. Hence the reason for new control arms with a better ball joint cup design. The new upper control arms are generally a different shape, and that is where the issues come from with larger tires and rubbing.  However, there have been reports of stock tires rubbing on stock control arms as well.

 

If all you want to do is level it slightly, I would just get a 2" kit with a Magneride adapter, and be done with it.

No rubbing issue at all.   the only thing I don't like is the upper ball joint angle.  I am going to keep an eye on it and if I start to see wear, I will likely go with the readylift upper control arms.

Hey guys. I have a 2015 z71 offroad and want to level as high as possible and run as big and fat of tire i can on stock 20 inch wheels. I also want to put fender flare on, hence the fat tire. Can anyone tell me if i can run a 33x12.5x20 tire with just leveling or would that require a lift, which i don't really want to do. I've tried the different websites and things just get more co fusing.

Sorry for some reason would not let me post all of those in one post. I am a huge fan of the wider tire look and these do not bother me only being 11.7 wide

I've got a 2018 cc, standard bed 4x4, all star edition so I've got the 20" wheels which i love. i want to level the truck and keep my stock wheels. my question is do i use the rough county 2" or go with bilstein 5100 on all four corners and front on the top setting? the truck is a daily driver and i farm on the side so it does get used some for what it is intended. what is going to be the best for me in the long run? i plan on keeping this truck for 10 years.

you wont want the Bils at the top setting, crappy ride.  My shop wants to do Bils @ 1.5 and a 1 inch spacer.  Or I may go 2.5" spacer and be cheap AF.

I'm not an expert but here goes.   You have a 2015 so you likely have cast steel upper control arms (as opposed to stamped steel or aluminum)--that's good news.   I have a 2016 GMC regular cab with the cast steel control arms and did a Bilstein 5100 level (top setting both sides) on my truck which only gave me 1.6 inches on one side and 1.8 inches of lift on the other.  I have factory GMC 18 inch rims with +24mm offset and 8.5 inches width.  I then installed 33 x 12.5 x 18 Toyo MTs ("E" rated tire which is actually a full 12.7 inches wide per Toyo site) all the way around and have zero rubbing issues of any significance (had to zip tie passenger side in one spot).    I also have plenty of clearance on all suspension components, even at full articulation.  Like you, I read all the threads and still wasn't sure how the tires would fit.  I have 8,000 miles on the tires and everything as been perfect.  You want to use stock 20 inch rims which likely are 9 inches wide and have an offset from +27mm to +31mm.  I think the 33's would fit fine.  I would go to Discount tire and have them put one on and if it doesn't work, scrap the plan.  They have a policy of allowing returns if you are not happy for any reason--re-confirm this but I asked in AZ and this policy was in fact true.  Last thought, if you level higher than what I did, I don't know if the upper or lower control arms might be at a different angle and touch the tire--but I think you will be OK and just do the Discount tire testing.

I have a 2016 GMC regular cab 2wd and hated the factory shocks.  I installed Bilstein 5100s all the way around and fronts on highest setting and love them.  I subsequently installed Toyo MTs (33 x 12.5 x 18) and love the setup.  If you want to handle dips and bumps on pavement or off-road as you described, the Bilsteins will be the best you can do for the money and they will also lift your front 1.5-2 inches on top setting (seems to vary).  I would go with top setting.  I like zero body roll (I corner hard) and the Bilsteins on the top setting have been perfect.  They handle certain bumps on the pavement way better than the stock shocks but on other types of bumps the stock shocks were better--so that is a wash.   However, these trucks really need 2 to 2.5 inches of lift in the front to be perfectly level.  If you are keeping your stock tire size though, the 1.5 inch top setting Bilstein lift is perfect for looks (the tire won't look too small in the front wheel well).  Also, Bilsteins alone minimize the concerns about ball joints and warranty denials.  See my writeups on all this in the forums.  Hope this helps.

      Based on what I can tell, yes.   As for updating it, its a mixed bag.  Updates do fix a lot of issues, but occasionally can create some oddities.  They do more good than harm though overall.     Here's what the most current one does and a  V171 Improvements Important: Improvements will vary by model, build configuration, system, and sales region. Not all vehicles have all features. OnStar and Wi-Fi may not work after remote start CarPlay may not automatically reconnect Part of the Driver Attention messaging screen may be in English even though the language is set to something else XM may not work After a dead 12V the radio may set to Arabic at each startup Bluetooth contacts might not be able to sync with the vehicle During an OTA the 12V battery may drain Customer might see a screen telling them to return to the dealer After changing the Wi-Fi SSID or password a device may not disconnect If a device is connected on the 2.4Ghz band, nothing will connect to the 5Ghz one, which could show as slow Wi-Fi speeds Customers might have noticed Wi-Fi dropping in certain areas and reconnecting later Customer might see the top of the screen blinking during Android Auto Android Auto may not connect CarPlay audio might momentarily cut out The "Add Phone" button may be grayed out The radio may not start up   V167 Most Notable Improvements:   Outside Air Temperature is incorrect. -You may see a popup message for Engine Shift. (Corvette Only) After changing the exhaust sound they get a popup that "mode change not applied", even though it was. -When changing volume, the volume bar is for Traffic instead of Audio. -(Corvette Only) Improvements to the placement of buttons and text. -If the customer receives the message "Apple CarPlay Could not connect", the cursor might move in the opposite direction than expected when using the control knob. -Android Auto automatically starts playing their music, even though they have turned that off in settings. -Intermittently they have a red OnStar LED with no OnStar function and/or no audio. -The minimum length of the Wi-Fi password was increased to 12 characters. -The popup message "Driver Attention Check, check your mirrors or Super Cruise will shut down" may not have come up on the display when it should have. -Startup animation added for 20th anniversary of the V-Series on Cadillacs. -The Navigation app received location improvements when going under long underpasses. -In the Navigation app there are filters for charging points that the vehicle cannot use.   V164 Most Notable Improvements Most notable improvements contained in this release may include: Apps Intermittently, an “SD Card Removed” message will pop up in the Navigation app. While in the audio app, the radio may stop working. Trailer Tire Pressure sensors may not be learned in the Trailer app. Not being able to return to the home screen while in the Camera app. After an ignition cycle, the radio might go to a black screen or stop working if using Sirius XM. Spotify icon truncated on Audio app.   SXM When changing power modes with the ignition switch, the HVAC pop up might appear. During startup, the radio will show the brand splash screen then go blank. Receiving a confirmation pop-up when changing drive modes. A “Return to Dealer” message may appear on the radio screen. SuperCruise setting toggle may not work. System After an ignition cycle, the radio might go black or stop working if using Sirius XM (SXM). Settings When performing a factory reset, the radio may stop working. Over the Air (OTA) When a software update is cancelled, the downloading logo may still be displayed. Energy When using the Energy app, the radio may stop working. When plugging in the vehicle, the display might show “Now” instead of “Charging Upon Plug In.” Instrument Cluster Voice recognition can be started while on an OnStar or phone call. When downloading contacts, there is a progress bar and circles on the Recents page of the cluster. The temperature on the cluster and the display may be different. After receiving and ending a call on the secondary paired phone, the cluster may get stuck on the phone menu. Bluetooth Intermittent Bluetooth connection loss.

      Front End Rattle

      Looking for help troubleshooting a metallic like front end rattle. Figured I’d see if anyone had thoughts before I schedule an appointment with the dealer.   The rattle is fairly loud and occurs primarily when the front driver side wheel hits a bump, even fairly minor road seams. Sometimes does it when the passenger hits a bump but I don’t believe when the rear hits. Rattle still occurs when foot is pressing brake peddle so I think that rules out the caliper rattle I’ve read about. I’ve also checked the running boards and they are tight.   Most noticeable at slow speeds.    Any insight is appreciated.

      We try to make cruise the coast. It’s where our favorite casino is. I only want to spectate. Never took a car. Always had one to take. I belonged to a club once. Even when I used to drag raced. It was during test and tune. Probably because I’m not a night owl, party person.

      Good looking Olds, and TRX!   I haven't been into car shows either. I'm probably not a convert but I did push myself this year to attend a few select events to challenge some assumptions and try to experience car-based social clubs in a different way. I joined up with the local Hagerty group for some cars/coffee events, group drives. A month ago I showed my '94 Camaro I rescued last fall at Radwood. Had a good time, but, there was some sitting around with the car and that's the part of shows I don't enjoy as much. I prefer to be a spectator, walk the show, grab a burger, go home.   Radwood was the only era-limited event, but where it had strict model year limitations, it made it up in variety. Having Jason Camissa there was also a hoot.   Where I see old 50's car shows, doo-wop and winga dinga music stuff fading out, same with "only" vintage muscle clubs, it seems to be the activity-based clubs/events which are gaining strong popularity. Places where all cars and interests come together.
